Indian food in Utah Valley is better than most people expect. Between Provo and Orem, a handful of restaurants serve genuinely good Northern Indian cuisine — fresh-ground spices, properly built curries, and naan hot from the tandoor. The scene isn't as deep as what you'd find in a major metro, but the best options here are legitimately excellent, and the lunch buffets offer some of the best values in the valley.
The Best Options
1. Bombay House
Northern Indian · $$ · 463 N University Ave, Provo
The undisputed king of Indian food in Utah Valley. Bombay House has been the go-to for over two decades, and the consistency is remarkable — freshly ground spices (you can see the spice grinder in the kitchen), from-scratch preparation, and flavors that have depth and complexity. The chicken tikka masala is the most popular dish and deservedly so, but the vindaloo, lamb korma, and biryani are all excellent.
The lunch buffet is one of the best meal deals in Provo — all-you-can-eat with 8–10 dishes for around $13–14. It's the ideal way to try multiple dishes if you're new to Indian food.
What to order: Chicken tikka masala, lamb vindaloo, garlic naan, and mango lassi. The biryani (rice dish) is outstanding and often overlooked.
Good to know: Dinner-only most days, with lunch buffet on select days. Check hours before going. Reservations helpful on weekend evenings. No alcohol served.
2. Haveli Modern Cuisine
Northern Indian · $$ · Orem
Haveli brings a more modern presentation to traditional Northern Indian cooking. The menu is extensive — curries, tandoori dishes, biryani, and a strong selection of vegetarian options — and the execution is consistently good. The lamb dishes are particularly well-done, and the naan varieties (garlic, stuffed, cheese) go beyond the basics.
The lunch buffet competes with Bombay House for best Indian lunch deal in the valley. Slightly smaller spread but excellent quality.
What to order: Lamb rogan josh, paneer tikka, and the garlic naan. The butter chicken is a crowd-pleaser.
3. India Palace
Northern Indian · $$ · Provo
A solid third option with a loyal following. India Palace offers a traditional Northern Indian menu with good execution across the board. The tandoori chicken is well-prepared, the curry options span from mild to genuinely spicy, and the vegetarian selections are taken seriously (not afterthoughts). The atmosphere is more casual than Bombay House, and the prices are slightly lower.
Good to know: The lunch buffet is available daily and is an excellent value.
4. Kohinoor
Northern Indian · $$ · Orem
A family-run restaurant that serves authentic Northern Indian cuisine with traditional recipes and presentation. Kohinoor fills the Indian food gap in Orem nicely, saving Orem residents the drive to Provo. The lamb vindaloo and coconut korma are standouts, and the mango lassi is smooth and well-balanced. The portions are generous and the prices are fair.
What to Know About Indian Food in Utah Valley
Lunch buffets are the move. Every Indian restaurant listed here offers a lunch buffet, and they're consistently the best meal deals in the area. For $12–15, you get all-you-can-eat with a rotating selection of curries, rice dishes, naan, and desserts. This is also the best way to try Indian food for the first time — sample everything and figure out what you like.
Spice levels are customizable. Every restaurant will adjust heat to your preference. If you like it spicy, ask for "Indian spicy" rather than the default — the default heat level is calibrated for the general Utah palate, which tends to be milder.
Vegetarian options are excellent. Indian cuisine has one of the strongest vegetarian traditions of any culinary culture. Paneer (fresh cheese) dishes, dal (lentils), aloo gobi (potato and cauliflower), and vegetable curries are all substantial, flavorful mains — not sidelines. Vegetarians and vegans eat very well at these restaurants.
No alcohol at some locations. Bombay House does not serve alcohol. Others may have limited options. If a drink pairing matters to you, check before going.
Takeout and delivery work well. Indian food travels well — curries actually improve as flavors meld. All of these restaurants offer takeout, and most are available through delivery apps.
