What goes where

Picking the right category is the difference between a post that gets found and one that sits at the bottom of “All”.

Sublets & Roommates

Summer sublets and roommate openings -- the short-term half of the transaction that runs on BYU and UVU's academic calendar rather than a normal lease year. Selling a whole contract is a different job with different paperwork, and it has its own board at /housing-contracts/.

e.g. “Summer sublet near BYU -- Joaquin, $465/mo”

For Sale

Furniture, bikes, electronics and the rest of the stuff that changes hands every April and August when a few thousand people move at once.

e.g. “IKEA desk and chair, barely used -- $60”

Textbooks

Course texts, clickers and lab manuals, sold between students at the two prices the bookstore does not offer.

e.g. “Math 1210 bundle, 9th ed -- $45”

Jobs & Gigs

Part-time shifts, one-off gigs and campus-adjacent work -- the postings too small or too soon for a job board.

e.g. “Part-time barista, Center Street -- 15 hrs/wk”

Services

Tutoring, moving help, photography, repairs -- neighbors offering work rather than businesses buying placement.

e.g. “Moving help with a truck -- Saturdays”

Free

Curb alerts, moving boxes and everything else worth more to the next person than to the curb.

e.g. “Free moving boxes -- porch pickup, Provo”

Wanted (ISO)

The inverse of For Sale, and the request the board could not carry before v277: looking for a desk, a ride-along, a specific textbook, a short-term room.

e.g. “ISO a mini fridge before fall semester”

Lost & Found

Keys, wallets, bikes and pets. Distinct from Free, which is about giving something away rather than returning it to whoever lost it.

e.g. “Found: set of keys near Rock Canyon trailhead”

Yard Sales

Saturday-morning sales, moving sales and multi-family blocks. This is the one category where a post is worthless the day after it runs, so listings here expire in a week rather than a month.

e.g. “Multi-family sale, Provo Bench -- Saturday 8am to noon”

Wedding Resale

Dresses, veils, decor and rings sold on after the day. A valley that holds this many weddings produces a resale market the general For Sale category buries, and buyers search for it by name.

Kids' Gear

Strollers, car seats, cribs, bikes and the clothing sizes a child is out of in a season. Distinct from For Sale because it is the category a parent browses on purpose rather than stumbles into.
