By accessing and using Provo.com (the "Site"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, please do not use the Site.
Use of the Site
Provo.com provides local information, guides, and resources about Provo, Utah. The content on this Site is for general informational purposes only. You may use the Site for personal, non-commercial purposes in accordance with these terms.
Content and Accuracy
We strive to provide accurate and up-to-date information, but we make no warranties or representations about the completeness, accuracy, or reliability of any content on the Site. Information about businesses, prices, hours, and services may change without notice. Always verify details directly with the relevant business or organization.
Articles containing information about real estate, financial matters, or legal topics are for general informational purposes only and do not constitute professional advice. Consult qualified professionals for decisions specific to your situation.
Intellectual Property
All content on the Site — including text, graphics, logos, and design — is the property of Provo.com and is protected by copyright law. You may not reproduce, distribute, or republish any content from this Site without our prior written permission.
User Submissions
If you submit content to us (such as tips, corrections, or event listings), you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use, modify, and publish that content in connection with the Site.
Community Boards: Classifieds, Housing Contracts and Events
Provo.com's classifieds, housing contract exchange and community event board (the "boards") let people in Utah Valley post listings for other people to see. Provo.com does not sell, buy, rent, hire or deliver anything listed, is not a party to any deal made through a listing, and never handles payment. Listings are written by the people who post them.
Who can post
- One person, one email. You confirm your email the first time you post. We can remove listings from an address that breaks these rules and refuse new ones.
- Post only what you have the right to sell, rent or offer, in Utah Valley.
What every listing must be
- True: a real item, room, job, service or event, described accurately, with a real price, "free" or "contact for price."
- In the right category, posted once. Reposting the same thing to stay on top is removed.
- Yours: your own photos and words. No photos of other people without their permission.
- Within the law, including the housing and job rules below. Sales of firearms and ammunition must follow Utah and federal law.
Not allowed
Listings for any of these are removed, and the poster may be blocked:
- Anything illegal to sell or offer in Utah or under federal law.
- Alcohol, tobacco and vape products, marijuana and THC products, hemp and CBD products, kratom, prescription drugs, and medical devices that need a prescription.
- Recalled products. Federal law makes it unlawful to sell a product under a Consumer Product Safety Commission recall; check cpsc.gov/Recalls before listing, especially children's gear.
- Puppy mills and pet resellers. Breeders, rehoming, pet supplies, livestock and poultry are welcome; we remove listings that look like a mill or a reseller, such as many breeds and litters from one poster, or animals sold sight unseen.
- Adult services, dating or escort ads, and sexual content of any kind.
- Counterfeit, stolen or "replica" goods, and anything that infringes a trademark or copyright.
- Multi-level marketing recruiting, get-rich-quick offers, work-from-home schemes that ask the worker to pay, and jobs that require buying anything to start.
- Payday or title loans, credit repair, and crypto or investment offers.
- Personal information about anyone other than the poster.
- Listings meant to mislead, including bait prices and fake giveaways.
Housing and jobs
- Housing ads. The federal Fair Housing Act (42 U.S.C. 3604(c)) and the Utah Fair Housing Act (Utah Code 57-21-5) make it unlawful to publish a housing ad that states a preference or limitation based on a protected class, including familial status. "No kids" and "adults only" are not allowed. Stating a fact about the housing, such as BYU-contracted housing designated for men or women, is different; our guide to selling a BYU housing contract explains the line. Ads for a shared room have narrower rules.
- Contract sales go on the housing contract exchange, not the classifieds.
- Job ads must describe real, paid work and may not state a preference based on race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age (40 and over), disability or other protected status.
Safety, and what Provo.com is not responsible for
- Meet in a public place, bring someone, and check items and licenses before paying. Never pay a stranger in advance by gift card, wire transfer or crypto, and never accept an "overpay and refund." - Provo.com does not screen, vet, license, employ or endorse anyone who posts, and does not check that listings are accurate. Services that Utah licenses, such as contracting, cosmetology and pesticide application, are the provider's responsibility; check a license with the Utah Division of Professional Licensing.
- To the fullest extent the law allows, Provo.com is not liable for any loss, injury or dispute arising from a listing or a deal made through the boards.
How moderation works
- First-time posters confirm by email. Unconfirmed posts are never public, and their photos are deleted after 7 days.
- Listings publish once confirmed and expire automatically: 30 days for most listings, 7 for yard sales, and events after their date. Posters can edit, renew or take down their own listing from the link in their email.
- Three separate reader reports hide a listing until Provo.com reviews it. We can remove any listing for any reason and do not have to explain each removal.
- Readers contact posters through a relay; posters' email addresses are never shown publicly. Links in listings carry
rel="nofollow ugc".
Your listing, our use
By posting, you give Provo.com permission to show, resize and reformat your listing and photos on the site and in the Provo.com newsletter's weekly listings digest, until you take the listing down or it expires.
Third-Party Links
The Site may contain links to third-party websites. We are not responsible for the content, accuracy, or practices of any third-party sites. Inclusion of a link does not imply endorsement.
Advertising
The Site may display advertisements and sponsored content. Sponsored content is clearly labeled. The presence of advertising does not constitute an endorsement of the advertised products or services.
Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Provo.com shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Site or reliance on any content provided.
Changes to These Terms
We may modify these Terms of Service at any time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date. Your continued use of the Site constitutes acceptance of any changes.
Governing Law
These Terms of Service are governed by the laws of the State of Utah, without regard to conflict of law provisions.
