This planner does not guess how long the sealing takes, because the Church does not publish a length. The temple gives you an arrival time when it schedules the appointment, and it can tell you roughly when to expect to come out. Enter those two times and the planner builds the rest from what our wedding guides state: photos on the grounds, the walk or drive to the luncheon, how long the luncheon needs, the gap in the afternoon and the evening reception. It checks your date against the temple's published closures and keeps a list of what each group needs to know.
Where each number comes from
- Arrival and exit are yours. The General Handbook says the temple provides instructions when the appointment is scheduled, and our wedding-week timeline lays out the order of the day: arrive at the time your instructions give, the sealing, rings in the sealing room if you exchange them there, the exit, photos, the luncheon, a rest gap and the reception.
- Photos default to 60 minutes. Our luncheon guide says formal family photographs on the grounds "routinely take 45 to 60 minutes and frequently overrun," because extended families regroup slowly and several wedding parties share the steps on a Saturday.
- The drive or walk to lunch uses the uncongested OpenStreetMap times our temple pages list for the venues near each temple. Those are best cases. The luncheon guide's warning: measure the drive on a Saturday, because fifteen minutes on a map "can be thirty in June with a wedding party of four cars trying to stay together." Pick "somewhere else" to type your own.
- The luncheon defaults to two hours. The same guide puts the window at ninety minutes to two hours and advises giving it two rather than one.
- The ring ceremony is 15 minutes at the start of the reception, from our ring ceremony guide: "Ten to fifteen minutes is plenty," and most couples hold it before the receiving line opens, so the people it is for see it before the crowd arrives.
- Closures come from each temple's page on the Church's site, checked October 20, 2026, the same data the wedding date finder uses.
What the planner cannot tell you
How many people your sealing room holds. The Church does not list sealing-room capacity on its temple pages, so ask the temple when you schedule how many guests the room you are offered will hold, where guests check in, and whether family members have somewhere inside to wait. Our temple pages, starting with sealings at the Provo City Center Temple, list those questions temple by temple.
None of the six temples lists a visitors' center or an arrival center on its Church page, so for most families the people who are not inside wait on the grounds, outdoors. Our guide for out-of-town guests explains the day from their side, and you can send it to them as is.
Before you print it
If you have not picked a date, start with the wedding date finder. If you are still deciding whether to hold a luncheon and a reception or one event, the guest-list and reception planner works through that decision and the open-house math. For the two weeks before, our wedding-week timeline goes day by day, including the marriage license window.
This planner arranges times you enter; it does not schedule anything with a temple or venue. Temple closures were checked on October 20, 2026. If something here is out of date, tell us.
