For shared places, the result shows the total unit rent your group can target if everyone earns roughly what you do — and your own share.
About This Calculator
The headline number is the classic 30%-of-gross-income guideline, adjusted down when debt payments eat into what's left. The "landlord screen" figure reflects the 3x-rent income requirement (equivalently, annual income of 40x the monthly rent) that most Provo-area property managers apply to applications — if your target rent fails that test, expect to need a co-signer, which is routine for BYU and UVU students. Shared student housing changes the math entirely: individual contracts in approved housing are priced per bed, not per unit, so also check the Apartment Finder and the student life guides if that's your situation.
