Seven Utah Valley cities run a public recreation center, and the price you pay at one depends on whether you live in that city, not on which building is closest to you. This hub starts there and moves outward, to the chains and campus gyms, the indoor pools and tracks that matter when winter air keeps runners inside, the climbing walls and group classes, and finally to recovery: physical therapy, massage, weight programs and counseling.
If you are new and choosing a membership, read Every Gym in Utah Valley, Compared before signing anything, then the rec center comparison for the pools and childcare. Students should check the Provo Rec Center's student rate first. Hospitals, urgent care and clinical medicine live on the Health hub; this one is for training, staying well and getting back to it. For an injury that needs a doctor, start with sports medicine in Utah Valley; for students, mental health for students and young adults.

Frequently asked
Do I need a doctor's referral to see a physical therapist in Utah?
Not under Utah's 2025 no-referral law, though some insurance plans still require a referral or prior authorization before they pay. The physical therapy guide explains what a PT may do without a referral and the insurance catches.
Where can I swim laps indoors?
At the city pools, starting with Orem's 50-meter pool, plus the Provo, Lehi, American Fork, Springville and Spanish Fork pools. The lap swimming guide lists each one's hours and day rates.
Is there a free group run in Provo?
Yes. Provo has a free Saturday parkrun, and Runner's Corner in Orem hosts an easy Wednesday evening group run open to all abilities. The running clubs guide covers both, along with the BYU club and youth teams.
Are yoga teachers licensed in Utah?
No. Utah does not license yoga teachers, and since May 2026 the state's fitness center law excludes yoga and Pilates studios. The yoga guide says what to look for instead.
