The community bulletin board

What a small-town paper kept on its back page: free stuff, lost and found, garage sales, volunteer calls and community events. Nothing here is a transaction, and nothing here costs anything to post — not now, not later.

Nobody has posted yet

This board is new and it is empty, which is the honest thing to say about it. It costs nothing to post and it will cost nothing later — the paid side of this site is the business directory, not the community board.

Posts are reviewed before they appear. Free items and lost-and-found notices run for 30 days; garage and yard sales run for 7, because a sale notice is worthless the day after the sale.

What belongs on the community board

Three of these are categories on the classifieds engine. The other two live on the surfaces that already own them, and this board points at those rather than holding a second copy.

Free
Curb alerts, moving boxes and everything else worth more to the next person than to the curb.
e.g. “Free moving boxes -- porch pickup, Provo”
Lost & Found
Keys, wallets, bikes and pets. Distinct from Free, which is about giving something away rather than returning it to whoever lost it.
e.g. “Found: set of keys near Rock Canyon trailhead”
Yard Sales
Saturday-morning sales, moving sales and multi-family blocks. This is the one category where a post is worthless the day after it runs, so listings here expire in a week rather than a month.
e.g. “Multi-family sale, Provo Bench -- Saturday 8am to noon”

Volunteer calls
Requests for hands — a food bank shift, a literacy tutor, a trail crew. Utah Valley already runs a large volunteer economy through churches, schools and nonprofits, and the guide below is where the standing opportunities are described.
Tutoring, mentoring and volunteering →
Community events
Ward parties, school fundraisers, neighborhood cleanups and anything else with a date on it. Events go to the calendar rather than the board, because a calendar sorts by date and a board does not.

Selling something? That belongs on the classifieds board. Selling a housing contract has its own exchange at housing contracts.
