Upcoming dates
For four days each June, the sidewalks of Bountiful's Historic Main Street become a gallery that is drawn while you watch and fades with the next rain. Magic on the Sidewalk, the Bountiful Chalk Art Festival, is free, runs Wednesday through Saturday, and is organized by the Joy Foundation.
The basics
- When: four days, Wednesday to Saturday, usually in late May or June. The date moves from year to year, so check the festival's page each spring.
- Where: the sidewalks of Historic Main Street in downtown Bountiful. The festival posts a site map showing each artist's square.
- Cost: free to walk and watch.
- Who runs it: the Joy Foundation, at kidsfindjoy.org, which also runs a busking schedule for street performers during the festival and a Bountiful open mic.
How the four days work
Artists start on Wednesday and work across the week on assigned squares. The work is judged and the winners are announced at the end of the festival, and street performers busk along the route on a posted schedule.
When to go
- To watch artists at work: Wednesday or Thursday, when the grids and underdrawings are going down and the artists have time to talk.
- To see finished work: Friday evening or Saturday, when the pieces are done.
- For the awards: check the festival's schedule for the Saturday announcement.
The drawings stay on the sidewalk until weather and feet wear them away, so the days after the festival can be a bonus. A hard rain can erase a piece overnight, though. The festival has also moved around the calendar over the years, so confirm the dates each spring.
Drawing in it yourself
Artist registration opens in the spring and fills. Once it is full, the Joy Foundation keeps a first-come wait list: email magiconthesidewalk@gmail.com with "wait list" in the subject. Keep an eye on kidsfindjoy.org and the festival's social media from early spring if you want a square.
Utah's chalk-art season
Chalk art in Utah is a short season with a few anchors, and Bountiful's is the one in June.
South Jordan. The SoJo Chalk Art Festival is part of SoJo Summerfest, and the city has set the 2027 festival for June 4 to 5, with artist registration opening in March.
West Jordan. Chalk the Walk, a free festival the city runs with the Salt Lake County Library, took place on August 29, 2026, from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Viridian Event Center amphitheater, 8030 South 1825 West. Anyone can register to draw, and the city posts its winners by category.
Farmington. Festival Days in early July includes its own chalk art contest, with cash prizes for registered artists. Our guide to Davis County's summer festivals has the details.
Getting there from Provo

June is a good month for Davis County. Lagoon is a short drive up the road in Farmington, and Antelope Island is an easy add. Hill Air Force Base's Warriors Over the Wasatch air show is due back in 2027; its VIP ticket site lists May 1 and 2, 2027, so confirm the dates with the base.
