Davis County, the band of cities between Salt Lake City and Ogden, runs its summer on city festivals. Three are worth knowing about from Utah Valley: Layton FEST, a free Friday-night market that runs through July and August; Farmington Festival Days, a week of events in early July that ends with a parade, a concert and fireworks; and Layton's Fourth of July celebration, Liberty Days. All three are free to attend.
Layton FEST: Friday nights in July and August
Layton FEST is an open-air market, and its name spells out the formula: Farmers, Entertainment, Shopping and Trucks. That means locally grown produce, local musicians and performers, local art and handmade goods, and a lineup of food trucks.
- When: Friday evenings from 5:30 p.m. until dusk. The 2026 season ran from July 10 through August 28.
- Where: Layton Commons Park, on North Wasatch Drive beside Layton City Hall.
- Cost: free admission.
It is less a festival than a weekly market, which is the appeal. Go once for dinner from the trucks and a walk around the park, and it is easy to see why it returns every summer.
Farmington Festival Days: a week in early July
Farmington's Festival Days is the city's annual celebration of the country and the community. In 2026 it ran from July 6 to 11.
During the week:
- Pickleball tournaments across several days.
- A 3-on-3 basketball tournament at the Farmington Gymnasium, 294 South 650 West.
- A chalk art contest with cash prizes for registered artists. In 2026 artists drew on the evenings of July 8, 9 and 10 and on Saturday morning, and prizes were announced at 12:30 p.m. Saturday on the main stage. Entry was $25 for a single youth, $30 for a single adult and $35 for an adult team.
Saturday is the big day:
- The 5K and 10K start at 7 a.m., with packet pickup the evening before at City Hall, 160 South Main.
- The parade steps off at 10 a.m.
- Then the day moves to Forbush Park. In 2025 the Saturday lineup there included breakfast in the park, food trucks and entertainment, a farmers market, a petting zoo and pony rides, a car show on Main Street, and an evening concert followed by fireworks.
Layton Liberty Days: the Fourth of July
Layton's Independence Day celebration is centered on Layton Commons Park, the same park that hosts Layton FEST. It combines a parade, fun runs, vendor and food booths, a free evening concert at the Ed Kenley Amphitheater and a fireworks show. The city announces the times, the parade route and the concert lineup each year.
Planning from Provo
- The drive: Farmington and Layton are roughly an hour north of Provo on I-15, and longer when Friday traffic builds through Salt Lake County. For Layton FEST, leave early.
- Pick your season: early July for Farmington and Layton's Fourth, any Friday in July or August for Layton FEST.
- Make a day of it: Lagoon is in Farmington, and Antelope Island is an easy add. Earlier in the summer, Bountiful's chalk art festival fills its Main Street in June, and Hill Air Force Base's Warriors Over the Wasatch air show returns in June 2027.
If you are comparing Fourths, Provo's own Freedom Festival is the valley's big one. Davis County's city celebrations are smaller.
