A downhill half marathon through Provo Canyon on Halloween morning, plus a 5K and Kids Run. Costume contest at the start line, spider medal at the finish — and it shares its date with a BYU home game.

Utah's largest Halloween running event comes down Provo Canyon on Saturday 31 October 2026. The half marathon starts first, the 5K follows, and the Kids Run goes later in the morning.

The course

The half is a downhill point-to-point through the canyon, and the organizer leans into the theme rather than bolting it on: the route passes through a tunnel dressed as a spook alley, a haunted forest section and a graveyard stretch, and finishes under a large pumpkin arch. Finishers take a spider medal.

The 5K is short and fast with room for costumes. The Kids Run is a half-mile across the same finish line, which is the part that matters to a six-year-old.

A costume contest runs at the half marathon start line, with individual and group awards.

The date is the planning problem

Halloween 2026 falls on a Saturday, and this race is not the only thing happening. BYU hosts Arizona State at LaVell Edwards Stadium the same day, kickoff still unannounced, and trick-or-treat hours land that evening. A canyon race in the morning, a stadium emptying in the afternoon and children in the road at six all share one corridor.

That stacking is worth planning around deliberately, and it is modeled street by street in the Halloween-night traffic guide.

There is also a Friday Night 5K on 30 October, run as a companion to the Saturday races.

Good to know

  • ✓ Runs on Halloween itself — Saturday 31 October 2026
  • ✓ The half is a downhill point-to-point course through Provo Canyon
  • ✓ Costume contest at the half marathon start line; costumes are the point, not a novelty
  • ✓ 5K and Kids Run follow the half on the same morning, so a whole family can enter
  • ✓ Shares its date with BYU vs Arizona State and with trick-or-treat night — plan the day, not the race
