Utah County Marriage Data

The published numbers on when and how often people marry here, each with its source and the period it covers, and a plain list of what nobody publishes.

The short version: no official source publishes a monthly count of Utah County marriage licenses. The closest published series are the state's monthly marriage counts for all of Utah, which put September on top in 2025 (5,497 marriages) and November at the bottom (3,175). The only Utah County license total we found is a newspaper figure: 11,323 licenses in roughly the year before July 2026. The details, and the limits of each number, are below.

This page is the reference table. For what the numbers mean when you are picking a date, read wedding season in Utah Valley; for the license itself, step by step, read getting a marriage license in Utah County.

Marriages by month, statewide

The Utah Department of Health and Human Services' Office of Vital Records and Statistics publishes monthly counts of marriages in its quick-stats summaries. They count marriages that took place in Utah ("Utah occurrences"), and the state labels them provisional, subject to change. They are statewide; Utah County is not broken out.

Marriages by year, Utah against the U.S.

The state's annual tables go back to 2018 on its quick-stats page (earlier years are in IBIS-PH). The U.S. column comes from the CDC's National Center for Health Statistics, whose national table runs one year behind Utah's.

Utah columns: Utah Quick Stats, Tables 1 and 2, Utah residents, 2018 to 2025. U.S. column: CDC/NCHS provisional national marriage rates, 2000 to 2024. Checked October 20, 2026.

Two sources, two Utah rates. The CDC also publishes a Utah rate, built from provisional counts by state of occurrence. It mostly tracks the state's own resident figure, within a tenth of a point, but not in 2023: the CDC lists Utah at 9.9 per 1,000 that year, while the state's table says 11.1. Neither source explains the gap. For 2024 both say 13.4. The state's IBIS-PH indicator says Utah's rate has run above the national rate since it began reporting marriage data there in 2010.

Utah County licenses: the one number we found

A Deseret News essay published July 5, 2026, by a writer who spent 11 months as a Utah County deputy clerk, states: "In the past year, Utah County issued 11,323 marriage licenses, and 5,161 of them were finalized by Utah County deputy clerks." The essay does not give the exact dates of that year or cite a county report, and the Clerk's website publishes no counts to check it against.

Read it as a count of licenses, not of local weddings. Utah County's Clerk says Utah has no citizenship or residency requirement for a license and that couples can apply, marry by remote ceremony and receive a certificate "without ever visiting the office." So a Utah County license may belong to a couple who live elsewhere, and a Utah County couple may hold a license from another Utah county. We do not divide this number by the population or compare it with the state totals, because it measures something different.

What is not published

We looked for a monthly or annual count of Utah County marriages or marriage licenses in each place a reader might expect one. As of October 20, 2026:

The records exist. Utah Code 81-2-306 requires the county clerk to keep each returned license and certificate and to send a certified transcript to the state registrar of vital statistics. Nobody publishes them by county. Until someone does, this page will not estimate a Utah County figure.

How to apply

Online: the Clerk says the whole application can be done online. You need a valid email address, a government-issued photo ID for each of you, a smartphone to scan each ID and face, and a credit or debit card (Visa, Mastercard or Discover). The Clerk says the application typically takes 15 to 20 minutes and the license is issued as soon as you pay; if the automatic identity check fails, manual verification typically takes a few business days. If you are in different places, each of you completes your own section from the same emailed link.

In person: both of you arrive together with photo ID at the marriage license office, 111 South University Avenue, Provo (phone 801-851-8109). In-office applicants can also pay by cash or check, and still receive a digital license.

A Clerk's Office ceremony is held by appointment, Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Mountain Time, by appointment; closed federal holidays. You need a Utah County digital license and two witnesses with ID. The Clerk's application and ceremony pages both carry the warning Utah Code 81-2-302 sets out for remote ceremonies: a marriage by online remote appearance may be invalid in the country where the couple lives.

Where the license falls in your last month of planning is on our wedding-week timeline; who can officiate is in our guide to civil officiants.
