Wedding Season in Utah Valley: The Monthly Marriage Numbers, the Busy Months, the General Conference Trap and the Temple Calendar

When Utahns marry, by month: state vital records for 2025 and early 2026, September on top, the conference-weekend temple closures and planning around them.

Utah Valley wedding guides, our own wedding timeline included, describe peak season as May through October. The state's marriage records give a sharper answer. In 2025, the busiest month for weddings in Utah was September, followed closely by May, July and August. June ranked fifth. December recorded more weddings than January, February, March or November.

This page walks through the numbers, then the calendar traps that matter more for any one couple than any statewide total: the general conference weekends, the Pioneer Day closures and the long temple maintenance weeks.

The numbers, month by month

The Utah Department of Health and Human Services' Office of Vital Records and Statistics publishes "quick stats" summaries with monthly counts of births, deaths, marriages and divorces. The figures are labeled "Utah occurrences" and are provisional, "subject to change." These are statewide counts. Utah County's marriage license site does not publish monthly license totals, so there is no official Utah County series to show. Every source we checked, and the one reported county license total, is on our Utah County marriage data page.

2025, all twelve months

Month Marriages Rank
January 3,382 10
February 3,482 9
March 3,363 11
April 4,727 6
May 5,307 2
June 4,833 5
July 5,237 3
August 5,108 4
September 5,497 1
October 4,642 7
November 3,175 12
December 4,401 8

Read it as three tiers:

It is not just the number of Saturdays

Some months have five Saturdays and some have four, which can tilt a monthly count. In 2025, it did not explain the pattern. September 2025 had four Saturdays and led the year; November 2025 had five and finished last. March and August each had five; one was nearly the quietest month and the other was fourth.

The first half of 2026

The state's 2026 second-quarter summary shows the year so far:

Month 2026 2025 Change
January 3,270 3,382 -112
February 3,244 3,482 -238
March 4,364 3,363 +1,001
April 4,798 4,727 +71
May 5,582 5,307 +275
June 5,492 4,833 +659

Source: Utah Quick Stats, 2026 Q2, Figure 1. Provisional.

The first six months of 2026 total 26,750, against 25,094 for the same months of 2025, about 7 percent higher. March's jump stands out. The state does not explain month-to-month changes, and one year of provisional data is not a trend.

The longer view

The annual table on the same page shows how sharply Utah's marriage count has risen:

Year Marriages Rate per 1,000
2018 26,898 8.5
2020 27,411 8.3
2022 33,456 9.8
2023 38,250 11.1
2024 46,973 13.4
2025 54,499 15.3

The national rate in the same table was 6.1 per 1,000 in 2023, the last year it lists. The annual table is labeled "Utah residents"; the monthly chart is labeled "Utah occurrences," and the twelve 2025 monthly figures add to 53,154, about 1,300 fewer than the annual total. The two tables count different things, and the monthly figures are provisional. The state does not say why the count has roughly doubled since 2018, so we will not guess.

One thing a Utah County couple should know regardless: Utah allows marriage by online remote appearance, and the Utah County Clerk warns that such a marriage may not be recognized in other countries. Our marriage license guide covers it.

What the numbers mean for booking

Statewide totals do not set your venue's prices, but they line up with what vendors charge for: demand.

The General Conference trap

Twice a year, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints holds general conference, broadcast over a Saturday and Sunday. For 2027, the Church News reports the dates as April 3 and 4 and October 2 and 3, with sessions at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Mountain Daylight Time each day.

Temples are always closed on Sundays. The trap is the Saturday. As listed on each temple's page in October 2026:

Temple Sat, Apr 3, 2027 Sat, Oct 2, 2027
Provo City Center Closed Closed
Orem Closed Closed
Mount Timpanogos (American Fork) Closed Closed
Lindon Closed Closed
Payson Closed (within Mar 22 to Apr 5 closure) Closed
Saratoga Springs Not listed as closed Closed (Oct 2 to 3)
Draper Closed Closed
Jordan River Closed Closed
Oquirrh Mountain Closed Closed (within Sept 20 to Oct 4 closure)

So for a temple sealing, conference Saturday is close to unavailable across the region in 2027. The Saratoga Springs Utah Temple's 2027 list does not include April 3; if that date matters to you, confirm with the temple directly.

Even for a civil wedding or a reception, conference weekend has a cost. Guests who are Church members may want to watch the sessions, which run 10 a.m. to noon and 2 to 4 p.m. A Saturday evening reception after the afternoon session can work; a midday event competes with the broadcast. Our general conference weekend guide covers the visitor side.

The other dates that close temples

Conference is the headline, but the closure lists hold more surprises. From the same temple pages, for 2027:

The long closures

Each temple also closes for one or more multi-week stretches. In 2027:

Temple Multi-week closures listed for 2027
Provo City Center May 31 to Jul 5; Nov 29 to Dec 13
Orem Feb 22 to Mar 8; Aug 23 to Sep 6
Payson Mar 22 to Apr 5; Sep 13 to 27
Saratoga Springs Jun 7 to 21; Nov 29 to Dec 13
Mount Timpanogos May 17 to 31; Nov 8 to 22
Lindon Feb 1 to 15; Aug 2 to 16

Notice the overlaps. In the first half of June 2027, both the Provo City Center and Saratoga Springs temples are closed. In late November and early December, the same two are closed together again. If you are flexible on temple, that matters less; if you have your heart set on one, start your date search from its list. Our temple pages, such as sealings at the Mount Timpanogos Temple, list each schedule in full.

The academic calendar on top

For BYU and UVU students, the school calendar narrows things further. Finals weeks, the short gap between BYU's winter semester and spring term, and the different start dates at the two schools all shape which Saturdays work. Our guide to getting married during the semester lines the 2026-27 calendars up against the temple closures.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the most popular month to get married in Utah?
In 2025 it was September, with 5,497 marriages, according to provisional monthly figures from the Utah Department of Health and Human Services Office of Vital Records and Statistics. May (5,307), July (5,237) and August (5,108) followed. November was the lowest month, at 3,175.
Is June the peak wedding month in Utah?
Not in 2025. June recorded 4,833 marriages in the state's provisional figures, fewer than May, July, August or September. In the first half of 2026, May (5,582) edged out June (5,492).
Is December a big wedding month in Utah?
Bigger than its neighbors. Utah recorded 4,401 marriages in December 2025, compared with 3,175 in November and 3,382 in January 2025, in the state's provisional data. It was still below every month from April through October.
How many marriages were there in Utah in 2025?
The Office of Vital Records and Statistics lists 54,499 marriages for 2025, a rate of 15.3 per 1,000 residents, up from 26,898 and 8.5 per 1,000 in 2018. Its figures are provisional and subject to change.
Can I get married in a temple on General Conference weekend?
Usually not on the Saturday. As listed on the Church's temple pages in October 2026, most Utah Valley and Salt Lake County temples are closed Saturday, April 3, 2027, and Saturday, October 2, 2027, the Saturdays of general conference. Temples are closed every Sunday. Check your specific temple; a few have different closure patterns.
Does Utah County publish marriage license counts by month?
Not on the Utah County Clerk's marriage license website as of October 2026. The monthly figures on this page are statewide marriages recorded by the Utah Department of Health and Human Services, not Utah County licenses.
Which Saturdays in 2027 are hardest for a temple wedding in Utah Valley?
Based on the closure lists on each temple's page in October 2026: April 3 and October 2 (general conference), July 3 at many temples, July 24 (Pioneer Day) at nearly all of them, and Christmas Day, December 25. Several temples also close for two or more weeks at a time, such as the Provo City Center Temple from May 31 to July 5, 2027.
Why did Utah's marriage count double between 2018 and 2025?
The state's quick-stats page does not say. Its annual table is labeled Utah residents while its monthly chart is labeled Utah occurrences, and it does not break the numbers down by county or explain the increase, so we do not either.
