Pioneer Park is downtown Provo's gathering lawn, on Center Street at 500 West. From early June through October it is home to the Saturday Provo Farmers Market, and in the holiday season to Provo's Christmas market, so this four-and-a-half-acre block is often full of stalls rather than picnics.

A park for small children
The park is what makes the market workable with small children: it has newer playground equipment and a splash pad, so they can run while you shop. The park also holds the Indian War Veterans Monument, unveiled on Pioneer Day, July 24, 1909: a minuteman statue on a base whose plaques list the Provo men who served in the Indian wars of 1850 to 1868.
Two traps
Salt Lake City has a Pioneer Park too, and both host well-known events, so check which city a listing means before you drive. And market parking has its own etiquette: there is free parking downtown, but the market asks visitors not to park in the residential blocks beside the park, where permit rules apply, and suggests walking or biking in; our market guide has its parking map.
