Wedding Registries Compared for Utah Couples: Cash-Fund Fees, Completion Discounts and Return Windows, From the Registries' Own Pages

Zola, The Knot, Honeyfund, Target and Crate & Barrel compared: who pays the 2.5% cash-fund fee, 15% completion discounts, and return windows.

Choosing a registry used to mean choosing a store. Now it mostly means choosing how cash gifts are handled, because the fee on a cash fund decides how much of each gift reaches you. We read the registries' own pages on October 20, 2026. Every figure below is the registry's own, as published that day.

For what to register for when your first home is a small apartment, and the local shops in Provo and Orem, read our wedding registries and gift shops guide. This page compares the platforms.

Cash funds: who pays the fee

Platform Fee Who pays
Zola 0% to couples; 2.5% card processing fee Guests by default, shown as a "Handling Fee"; couples can choose to absorb it, deducted when they transfer funds
The Knot Cash Fund 2.5% processing fee on card contributions Guests, at checkout
Honeyfund No guest fee (an optional tip, which couples can turn off) Couples, at withdrawal: 2.2% to PayPal or Venmo; 3.5% plus $0.59 to a bank account; 0% to Honeyfund's prepaid Mastercard or to gift cards

On a $100 gift: through Zola with the default setting, the guest pays $102.50 and you receive $100; through The Knot, the guest pays $102.50 and you receive $100; through Honeyfund, the guest pays $100 and you receive $97.80 by PayPal, $95.91 by bank transfer, or $100 on Honeyfund's prepaid card.

Zola advertises that "competing registries often charge 2 to 3% per cash gift." Its own 0% is to the couple; the 2.5% still exists, paid by the guest unless you choose otherwise.

Store registries: completion discounts and returns

Registry Completion discount Returns and exchanges Nearest store
Target 15% on remaining items after the wedding Up to a year Orem and Provo
Crate & Barrel 15%, for up to six months after the event General return policy Murray
Zola Not stated on its main registry page Exchange eligible gifts or convert to store credit Online only

Crate & Barrel also offers guests free shipping on eligible registry orders of $49 or more, and mentions "bonus gifts" without listing them. Our local registry guide has the Target store addresses and the Crate & Barrel store in Murray.

Amazon's registry pages could not be read with the tools we use. Its registry advertises a completion discount; check the current terms on Amazon before you choose.

How to choose

  1. Decide the split. Many couples register for a short list of things they need and add a cash or honeymoon fund. Our newlywed money guide covers what a first apartment actually needs.
  2. Read the fee setting. On Zola, decide whether guests or you pay the 2.5%. On Honeyfund, choose the withdrawal method before the money arrives.
  3. Check the return window against your date. If there is any chance the date moves, a one-year return window (Target) or store credit (Zola) is a safety net. Our postponing or canceling guide covers what to do with gifts.
  4. Think about your guests. An open-house reception brings many guests who may prefer to carry a gift. A store with Utah Valley locations, like Target in Orem and Provo, lets them shop in person. Our open-house reception guide covers the gift table.
  5. Put everything on one website. Link each registry from your wedding website so guests do not have to hunt.

The Knot's cash fund also has a 2.5% fee paid by guests. Honeyfund charges no guest fee and instead charges couples when they withdraw, from 0% to 3.5% plus 59 cents depending on the method.
How much is the Target registry completion discount?
Target's registry page advertises a 15% completion discount on items remaining on your registry after the wedding, and says registry items can be returned or exchanged for up to a year.
What does Crate & Barrel offer registrants?
A 15% completion discount for up to six months after the event, and free shipping for guests on eligible orders of $49 or more, per its registry page in October 2026. The nearest store to Utah County is in Murray.
Can guests in Provo pick up a Target registry gift in person?
Guests can shop Target registries in store; there are Target stores in Orem and Provo. Our local registry guide lists the addresses.
Should we register for cash in Utah Valley?
It is common nationally, and many couples here pair a small item registry with a cash or honeymoon fund. Fees decide how much of each gift you keep, so read the fee terms before choosing a platform. Some guests prefer to give a physical gift at an open-house reception.
What happens to gifts if the wedding is postponed?
Return windows matter more than usual. Target allows registry returns and exchanges for up to a year, and Zola lets couples exchange eligible gifts or convert them to store credit. Our local registry guide covers etiquette when plans change.
Does Amazon have a completion discount?
Amazon advertises registry benefits including a completion discount, but its registry pages could not be read for this guide. Check its current terms directly; past terms differed for Prime and non-Prime members.
Is it OK to have more than one registry?
Yes, and it is common to pair one store registry with a cash fund. Link both from one wedding website so guests do not have to search.
