Mid-Singles in Utah Valley: What the Term Means Since 2024, the Wards for 26 to 35 and 36 to 45, the Activities, and the Plain Picture

For Latter-day Saint singles in their 30s and early 40s: where ages 31 to 35 and 36 to 45 belong now, Utah Valley single adult wards, UCSA dances, trade-offs.

If you are a Latter-day Saint in your thirties or early forties and someone tells you about "mid-singles," translate before you act on it. The 31-to-45 mid-singles bracket many people remember no longer exists in Church policy. Since July 18, 2024, 31 to 35 is part of the young single adult tier, and the Church's single adult wards serve 36 to 45. Utah Valley has wards for both groups, an active calendar for the older one, and some real trade-offs that nobody puts on a flyer.

For the full history of the tiers and how the YSA system works for younger members, see our explainer on YSA, mid-singles and single adults. For the year's conferences and dances, see our singles conferences and dances calendar. This page is the practical version for the person who is 31 to 45 and single, right now.

The rule, from the Church's own letter

The Church's July 18, 2024 notice to leaders in the United States and Canada says:

The letter asked leaders to think about what happens to a single adult ward when many of its 31- to 35-year-olds move to a young single adult ward.

If you are 31 to 35

You are a young single adult. Under the 2024 rules, and in the current General Handbook, your options are a young single adult ward if one covers your address, or your geographic (family) ward.

In Utah Valley, the 26-to-35 option is real. The Church's local page for the Orem YSA 34th Ward (26-35), for example, says it is "established for Young Single Adults between the ages of 26 and 35," meets at 10:30 a.m. and gathers at 824 West 800 South in Orem. The Handbook says young single adults who attend an 18-to-25 unit move to a 26-to-35 unit when they turn 26.

What this means in practice:

If you are 36 to 45

You are a single adult. You can belong to a single adult ward if one covers your address, or to your geographic ward. The General Handbook (chapters 14 and 37) adds the details that decide most people's situation:

Single adult wards we could verify in Utah County

The Church publishes a page for each congregation. These three are listed as single adult (SA) wards; there may well be others, and boundaries change, so treat this as a starting point and confirm yours in the Meetinghouse Locator: The Church's site now lists more; see the full list of singles wards.

Ward Sunday service Meets at
Lehi SA 40th Ward (ages 36 to 45, Lehi and American Fork) 9 a.m. 3065 N. 1300 W., Lehi
Saratoga Springs SA 11th Ward 9 a.m. 368 W. Aspen Hills Blvd., Saratoga Springs
Spanish Fork SA Ward Noon 1167 S. 1700 E., Spanish Fork

The Lehi ward's page describes it as serving "individuals aged 36-45 in the Lehi and American Fork areas" and invites new members to fill out a form to be added to the ward directory.

The activities

The Handbook says activities for single adults "take place at the stake and multistake level," planned by stake single adult committees made up of a few single adults from each ward, led by a single adult man and woman who sit on the stake council. Area Seventies may help organize committees for multistake activities. Funding comes from stake or ward budgets, with an exception allowing members to pay some costs at multistake and area events. Events outside the ward system are in speed dating and singles events. This month's verified public activities are on our monthly singles calendar.

In Utah County, the most visible result is Utah County Single Adults (UCSA). Its website says it operates under priesthood leadership, including an Area Seventy and a coordinating council of stake and ward representatives. It is organized for single adults 46 and older, with "mid-singles" 36 to 45 welcome; divorces must be final and married couples are not eligible. UCSA lists:

The Church News reported that the June 2026 conference, themed "Anchored in Christ," ran June 23 to 28 in Orem, promoted for "legally single adults 46+" with ages 36 and up welcome. Its program included a dance, a potluck, service projects, a temple day at Mount Timpanogos, family history and workshops.

If your stake has a single adult committee, it plans its own activities as well. Ask your bishop who your stake's single adult representatives are.

The plain picture

The system above describes what the Church provides. Here is what follows from it, without dressing it up.

There are fewer of you, spread across more ground. A single adult ward needs at least 125 members to exist, and its boundary may cover several cities; the Lehi SA 40th Ward, for example, serves both Lehi and American Fork. Getting to activities usually means driving.

Your ward depends on your circumstances, not just your age. A never-married 38-year-old and a divorced 38-year-old with two children at home will be in different wards under Church policy, even if they live on the same street. The parent's place is the family ward, with singles activities as an option.

The family ward is a legitimate choice. The Handbook treats it as the default for 36-to-45s and lets anyone choose it.

Turning 36 and turning 46 are transitions. Your records move at those birthdays. Leaders are told to communicate with the new ward and plan a calling or assignment that helps the member feel welcome, so it is reasonable to ask your bishop how and when your move will happen.

Dating is part of it, and so is everything else. Singles wards, dances and conferences are where many people meet, and the Church's activity guidelines also list service, temple visits and friendship among their purposes. For the broader dating culture in the valley, our dating in Provo guide covers it from the student end. For the apps, see dating apps in Utah Valley, compared.

Where to start this week

  1. Find your ward. Put your address in the Meetinghouse Locator and see whether a YSA (26 to 35) or SA (36 to 45) ward covers it.
  2. Visit both options once. Attend the singles ward and your family ward on different Sundays before you decide where your records go.
  3. Get on a calendar. Ask your bishop for your stake's single adult committee contacts, and look at UCSA's calendar for the next first- or third-Friday dance.
  4. Watch for the next conference. UCSA holds conferences twice a year; our conferences calendar lists the annual ones.

Frequently Asked Questions

What ages are mid-singles in the Church now?
The Church no longer uses a 31 to 45 bracket. Since a July 18, 2024 letter to leaders in the U.S. and Canada, 'young single adult' means unmarried members 18 to 35, and 'single adult' means 36 and older. Where single adult wards exist, they serve members 36 to 45. People still say 'mid-singles' for that 36 to 45 group.
I am 33 and single. Which ward do I go to?
You are a young single adult until 35. In areas with many young single adults, the Church allows separate wards for 18 to 25 and 26 to 35, and Utah Valley has them: the Orem YSA 34th Ward, for example, describes itself as a congregation for young single adults between 26 and 35. Your address determines which one is yours.
Are there single adult wards for ages 36 to 45 in Utah County?
Yes. The Church's local pages list, among others, the Lehi SA 40th Ward, which says it serves ages 36 to 45 in the Lehi and American Fork areas and meets at 9 a.m.; the Saratoga Springs SA 11th Ward, meeting at 9 a.m.; and the Spanish Fork SA Ward, meeting at noon. Use the Church's Meetinghouse Locator with your address to find the one that covers you.
Do I have to attend a single adult ward?
No. The General Handbook says single adults may choose to be members of the single adult ward where one exists or of their geographic ward. It also says single adults 36 to 45 are generally best served in geographic units, with single adult wards as an exception where there are enough members.
Can single parents attend a single adult ward?
Single adult parents ages 36 to 45 with children at home remain in their geographic ward, so their children can take part in Primary and youth programs. The Handbook says they may attend the activities of the single adult ward.
Can someone who is separated attend singles activities?
Not until the divorce is final. The General Handbook says a person who is separated or seeking a divorce participates in a geographic ward and may attend a ward or activities for single members when the divorce decree is final.
What happens at 46?
Members do not attend a single adult ward after they turn 46 and become members of their geographic ward. Many activities continue: Utah County Single Adults (UCSA), for example, is organized for single adults 46 and older and welcomes those 36 to 45.
When are the UCSA dances?
UCSA's website says it holds dances on the first and third Fridays of each month in Orem and Lehi, each with instruction, refreshments, a game room and a service project. Check its calendar for times and locations.
