Cooking Classes in Utah Valley: Harmons' Lehi Kitchen, the Butcher Shop Steak Class, UVU's Non-Credit Catalog, and Where Kids Can Cook

Where to take a cooking class in Utah County: Harmons Cooking School in Lehi, Mosida Market's steak night, UVU's enrichment courses, kids' classes and prices.

Utah County has fewer cooking schools than you would expect for a place this size, and the best-stocked one sits in a grocery store at the north end of Lehi. Here is what is on offer, with the posted prices: the Harmons Cooking School at Traverse Mountain, a butcher shop's steak class, UVU's non-credit catalog, and the options for kids. Prices and dates are as each organizer listed them in October 2026.

Harmons Cooking School, Traverse Mountain

Harmons Grocery, 1750 West Traverse Parkway, Lehi. About 21 miles and 27 minutes from downtown Provo by OpenStreetMap routing. The Utah grocer runs cooking schools in seven of its stores, and Traverse Mountain is the only one in Utah County. Its chef is Sterling West.

What a class is like. The school describes its classes as hands-on: you cook in small groups at shared workstations, led by a professional chef, for two to two and a half hours, standing for most of it. Wear comfortable, closed-toe shoes and tie long hair back. Seats are sold individually.

What is on the schedule. The Traverse Mountain list for late October through November 2026 gives a sense of the range: All About Cast Iron, Creamy Carbonara, Moroccan Cuisine, Taco Tuesday, Holiday Sides With a Healthier Twist, Sushi Essentials, an All American Steakhouse night, Gnocchi, Indian Cuisine, Brazilian Steakhouse, Tuscan Autumn, and a Thanksgiving Sides class. Most run on weeknights from 6 to 8 p.m.

Prices. Seats on that list ran from $60 to $100 each.

For kids and families. The schedule mixes in Junior Chef classes (a Junior Chef Steak Night on November 17, 5 to 7 p.m.) and Date With My Grown-Up classes, such as a pizza party, for a child cooking with an adult. Kids must wear long pants and closed-toe shoes; short sleeves are fine, sleeveless is not. A Breakfast With Santa class was listed for Saturday morning, December 12.

The 21-plus classes. Wine and beer pairings (White Wine and Seafood, Autumn Ale, Steakhouse With Red Wine) are 21 and older. Everyone must show a valid government-issued photo ID at check-in, even if not drinking, and mocktails are offered.

Cancellations. At least 48 hours before the class for a refund or credit. Harmons also books its kitchens for private events.

If Lehi's dates do not fit, the next-nearest Harmons schools are Bangerter Crossing in Draper and Mountain View in Riverton, both in Salt Lake County.

Mosida Market: All Things Steak With the Butchers

Farmhouse Kitchen, above the Mosida Market butcher shop, 139 North 1800 East, Lehi. Mosida Market is a family butcher with three shops, including Lehi and Provo, each with a café, and it runs a class in the restaurant above its Lehi shop. All Things Steak With the Butchers covers different cuts of steak, served with salad, mac and cheese and the tallow fries from its Farmhouse Kitchen menu. It starts at 6:30 p.m. and runs about two and a half hours. $105 a student, with 10% off when you sign up for two seats. Fall 2026 dates were October 27, November 3 and November 10; the August session sold out. The same page listed a Hands-on Sourdough Workshop on October 10 for $85. Cancellations need 48 hours' notice; the shop's number is (801) 756-2234.

UVU Continuing Education

Utah Valley University's Continuing Education division runs a non-credit catalog for adults, with more than 500 personal enrichment courses and no admission required. Its cooking category lists course types including baking and bread making, barbecue and grilling, cake decorating and desserts, chocolate and confections, cooking basics and techniques, culinary workshops and tastings, healthy and specialty cooking, international cuisine, meal preparation and pizza making. Individual courses, dates and fees are posted in the catalog each term. Our guide to community education in Utah Valley explains how the catalog and the school-district programs work.

Do not confuse this with UVU's Culinary Arts Institute, at 661 Timpanogos Parkway in Orem, which is a career program for students training to become professional cooks and bakers. It is a degree track, not a drop-in class.

Community education and extension

For kids

Beyond Harmons' Junior Chef and Date With My Grown-Up classes, UVU Continuing Education lists more than 150 summer youth programs each year, and summer camps sometimes include cooking. Our kids' classes guide and summer camps guide cover the rest.
