Timpanogos Regional Hospital is the other full-service hospital in central Utah County, the one that is not Intermountain. It is at 750 West 800 North in Orem, it is owned by HCA Healthcare through its Utah division, MountainStar Healthcare, and it has been caring for Utah County patients since 1998, by its own account.
For most families the hospital matters for three reasons: a 24-hour ER that takes children seriously, a women's center with a Level III NICU next door, and an insurance network that is different from the county's dominant system. This page covers each of those, in the order people usually need them. It is a guide to the building and its services, not medical advice; in an emergency, call 911.

The emergency room
The hospital's emergency care page says the ER is open 24/7, treats all ages, and is staffed with board-certified emergency physicians. It lists four kinds of advanced emergency care, and they are the useful way to think about what this ER is set up for:
- Heart attacks. A cardiac catheterization lab and interventional cardiology. The hospital's history page says it offers open heart surgery, cath labs and cardiac rehabilitation, and its awards page lists accreditation as a Chest Pain Center with Primary PCI from the American College of Cardiology (2024).
- Stroke. Advanced certification as a Primary Stroke Center from the Joint Commission.
- Trauma. The hospital says the Utah Department of Health designated it a Level III Trauma Center. The state Bureau of EMS trauma center list (dated April 14, 2025) agrees, showing a designation date of November 7, 2024, expiring November 7, 2027.
- Children. The page describes a pediatric ER and a pediatric intensive care unit.
What Level III means in practice: it is a trauma-capable hospital with general surgeons and on-call specialists, but the county's highest-level adult trauma center is Utah Valley Hospital in Provo, a Level II. For the most severe injuries, emergency crews may take a patient there instead. Our guide to Utah Valley Hospital covers that campus, and urgent care or the ER covers the decision about where to go when it is not a 911 call.
The second door. Timpanogos also runs the Westlake Emergency Center, a freestanding ER at 700 North Redwood Road in Lehi, open 24/7 with on-site lab and imaging, serving west Lehi, Saratoga Springs and Eagle Mountain. A freestanding ER is billed as an emergency room, not an urgent care, so the price of a visit follows ER rules.
Talk to a nurse first. MountainStar runs a free nurse line, listed on the hospital's pages at 844-706-8773, for help deciding where to seek care.
Children: the pediatric floor and the PICU
This is the feature that sets Timpanogos apart in central Utah County. The hospital's pediatrics page describes:
- Pediatric emergency care around the clock, plus a low-dose radiation CT machine in the ER.
- A pediatric inpatient unit with pediatric-trained nurses, meals and sleeping arrangements for parents, and a patient playroom.
- A pediatric intensive care unit with a critical care specialist available 24/7. The hospital calls it the only PICU in the Provo-Orem metropolitan area.
- Pediatric surgery and imaging with child-life specialists and sedation for younger children.
The pediatric services are listed at MountainStar Children's Services, 700 West 800 North, next to the main hospital.
One honest caveat about the map: Intermountain's Primary Children's Hospital has a campus in Lehi, at 2250 North Miller Campus Drive, with its own 24-hour emergency department. For a child with a complex condition already followed by Primary Children's specialists, that relationship may decide where you go. Our hospital networks explainer lays out who runs what.
Having a baby: the Women's Center
The Timpanogos Women's Center handles labor and delivery. From the hospital's labor and delivery page:
- Providers. Board-certified obstetricians and certified nurse midwives. The page notes midwifery care can accommodate other birth choices, not only unmedicated birth.
- An OB-GYN on site 24/7 for emergencies until your own provider arrives.
- Birthing suites equipped for a range of labor options, including rooms with whirlpool tubs.
- Support person accommodations, including meals during labor and a place in the operating room for a planned or unplanned C-section.
- Postpartum. Private suites, skin-to-skin contact prioritized, certified lactation consultants, and a locked unit with an infant security system.
- High-risk pregnancy care from a maternal-fetal medicine team; consultations are booked at 855-790-3627.
Tours and classes. The hospital offers a tour of the Women's Center (844-630-5295) and classes including breastfeeding and an "Enjoying Your Birth Experience" class, registered through its online calendar. You can preregister online for your stay.
Donor milk. Timpanogos describes itself as a regional breast milk donation center. Donors are referred through 801-714-6605, pre-screened by phone, and given a blood test at the hospital at no cost.

The NICU
The hospital's history page describes a 29-bed, Level III NICU. Its NICU page adds:
- Neonatologists and nurses cover the unit 24/7.
- It can care for babies born as early as 24 weeks.
- The hospital says it is the only NICU in Utah with the Joint Commission's Prematurity Certification.
- Parents get secure webcam access to see their baby from a phone, tablet or computer.
- It is a locked unit, and staff may limit the number of visitors.
- Families receive "journey maps" showing the milestones a baby needs to reach before going home.
The NICU and nursing staff carry Magnet recognition from the American Nurses Credentialing Center, which the hospital's awards page lists for 2021 to 2024.
Visiting
The visitor page is thinner than you might expect. It says several units have their own visiting policies and asks you to check with the patient's nurse, rather than publishing hospital-wide hours. Other details from the page:
- Cafeteria: breakfast 8 to 10 a.m. and lunch 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., as listed in October 2026. Vending machines are near patient care areas.
- Wi-Fi: free guest network named "Guest_Access."
- Chaplains make daily rounds and are available 24 hours a day.
- Interpreters are provided through a phone service.
- Smoke-free facility.
- Patient experience line: 801-714-6047.
Parking. The hospital's pages do not publish a parking map or rules. If you are coming for a scheduled procedure or a birth, ask the scheduling office which entrance and lot to use when you preregister.
Size, staff and record
From the hospital's own history page: Timpanogos grew from a 45-bed hospital to 122 beds, with more than 600 employees and volunteers and more than 300 active and courtesy physicians. Its awards page lists recognition among the Fortune/PINC AI 100 Top Hospitals in 2023 and 2024 in the medium community hospital category, the American Stroke Association's Get With The Guidelines Stroke Gold Plus award for more than ten consecutive years, and the Joint Commission's Gold Seal of Approval (2024).
Insurance and billing: the network question
This is the practical issue newcomers trip on. Most of Utah County's hospitals belong to Intermountain Health, and many local insurance plans are built around Intermountain. Timpanogos belongs to HCA. Before a planned surgery, a scheduled birth or an elective admission, call your insurer and confirm Timpanogos and your specific doctors are in network.
Emergency care is different. The federal No Surprises Act, in effect since January 1, 2022, protects most insured patients from unexpected out-of-network bills for emergency room visits, according to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. The hospital's site links to price transparency, a right-to-estimate notice, financial assistance and online bill pay; patient records and the MyHealthONE portal are also online. If money is tight, health insurance in Utah, explained covers Medicaid and marketplace options, and the hospital's financial assistance page is the place to start for a bill you cannot pay.
Where it fits
In central Utah County you have three ERs within a short drive: Utah Valley Hospital in Provo (Level II trauma, Intermountain), Timpanogos Regional in north Orem (Level III, HCA, pediatric ER and PICU), and Orem Community Hospital (Intermountain, a 24/7 ER without a state trauma designation). For a sick or injured child, a heart attack or a stroke, Timpanogos is set up for all three. For routine, non-emergency care, our guide to finding a doctor in Provo is the better starting point.
