Fort Utah

Named for where Provo actually started, in 1849 — now a settled west-side family area

Fort Utah carries the oldest name in the city. The original Fort Utah was established in March 1849 near the Provo River, and the neighborhood that grew around the site is now a straightforward, well-kept west-side family area — modest homes, wide streets, and one of the better city parks in Provo sitting in the middle of it.

Where it is

West Provo around Center Street west of about 1600 West, running toward the Provo River and the lake side of the city. Check the city's neighborhood map for exact lines.

The housing

Mostly single-family homes from the later twentieth century, on regular lots, with newer subdivisions filling in toward the river. Owner-occupancy is the norm.

Schools

Provo City School District. Amelia Earhart and Lakeview elementaries serve the west side, with Shoreline Middle at 1201 West 890 South and Provo High nearby. Attendance boundaries change and the district is the only authority on them, so confirm any address with Provo City School District before you count on a school.

Getting around

Center Street runs straight east into downtown in under ten minutes, and I-15 is a similar distance. Lakeview Parkway handles north–south trips on this side of town.
