University

The BYU campus itself — the neighborhood that is mostly one institution

Provo's University neighborhood is, for practical purposes, the BYU campus: the city's planning documents tag campus applications this way, including the demolition and reconstruction of the BYU Administration building at roughly 530 East 1230 North. Almost nobody 'moves to' the University neighborhood in the ordinary sense; you either live in on-campus housing or you live in Joaquin, Foothills, North Park or Wasatch and treat this as the place you walk into every day.

Where it is

The BYU campus footprint, bordered by Joaquin to the south, North Park to the west, Foothills and Oak Hills up the bench, and Carterville and Brickyard beyond the north edge.

The housing

On-campus university housing rather than a private market. Anyone comparing rents should be looking at the surrounding neighborhoods instead — Joaquin has the deepest student stock.

Schools

Not a K–12 attendance question in any useful sense. Families in the surrounding neighborhoods are served by Provo City School District. Attendance boundaries change and the district is the only authority on them, so confirm any address with Provo City School District before you count on a school.

Getting around

The most transit-served point in the county. UVX stops on campus and runs to UVU and to Provo Central Station, where FrontRunner heads to Salt Lake — no Sunday service. UVX is free only with a qualifying student ID; it has not been free to the general public since August 2024.
