Kiwanis Park is a 16-acre neighborhood favorite on the east bench, just below the BYU campus. It has the lighted tennis courts, a fire pit and a reservable pavilion with power, and in winter its slopes are one of the two sledding spots our snow-day guide sends people to first.

Two fairs on two plaques
Two Rotary history markers stand in the park, and both are about fairs. One recalls 1897, when Provo hosted the first countywide Utah County Fair, paid for by benefit concerts and admission, with prizes that included a gold thimble and a bedroom set. The other tells of an 1850 trading fair near Fort Utah, arranged by Brigham Young after that winter's fighting to rebuild ties with the Ute bands who gathered along the Provo River each spring to fish, and which the marker calls the largest such fair between the Utes and the settlers.
Using the park
Every Fourth of July the park is the finish line of the Freedom Run: the 10K, 5K and one-mile races of America's Freedom Festival all end at its entrance, and the festival suggests parking at LaVell Edwards Stadium and walking over. The rest of the year, the paths, playground, grills and restrooms make it an easy family evening. Don't confuse it with Pleasant Grove's Kiwanis Park, at the Battle Creek Falls trailhead, a different park in a different city.
