Harmon Park has been a playground for a century, and on purpose. In 1925 the Harmon Foundation of New York City gave Provo the money to buy this ground on the condition that it stay a public playground forever, and a 1968 marker in the park still says so.

A playground bought for good
The marker credits Provo Post 13 of the American Legion with winning the Harmon grant, and says Legion members put in many hours building the park afterward. That gift is why a block of east Provo carries the name of a New York foundation.
Today the park is mostly ball fields: a baseball field and a softball field, which the city books as field reservations rather than pavilion rentals, plus a playground, restrooms and a 54-space lot. There is no pavilion, so birthday parties here are blanket-on-the-grass affairs.
