Paul Ream Wilderness Park is nine acres of conservation park on the Provo River, beside Independence High School, and our west Provo guide calls it a strange and welcome thing to find on the edge of a residential grid: river access, wildlife and cottonwoods a few steps from the houses.

Using the park
The Provo River Trail runs through it, which makes the 55-space lot one of the better places to start a flat river ride, especially while Fort Utah Park's main lot is closed for its rebuild. There is a playground, horseshoe pits, grills, restrooms and a reservable pavilion with power and lights. The city's parks list spells the name Paul Reams; its park data says Paul Ream.
Up and down the river
On the trail, Riverside Park is 0.2 miles upstream, and Fort Utah Park, near where the settlers built their first fort in 1849, is about 0.5 miles downstream, on the way to Utah Lake State Park at the river's mouth. Independence High School is about a block away.
