What goes where

Picking the right category is the difference between a post that gets found and one that sits at the bottom of “All”.

Buy & Sell

Furniture
Couches, desks, beds, dressers and the rest of a furnished apartment, most of it changing hands in the April and August move-out weeks.
e.g. “IKEA desk and chair, barely used -- $60”
Read the furniture guide →
Electronics
Laptops, monitors, phones, TVs, consoles and calculators. Wipe your data before you sell; ask to see a device power on before you buy.
e.g. “27-inch monitor, 1440p -- $90”
Read the electronics guide →
Textbooks
Course texts, clickers and lab manuals, sold between students at the two prices the bookstore does not offer.
e.g. “Math 1210 bundle, 9th ed -- $45”
Bikes & scooters
Commuter bikes, mountain bikes, e-bikes and scooters. Ask for the serial number and check it against stolen-bike registries before you pay.
e.g. “Trek commuter bike, medium frame, with lock -- $180”
Read the bikes & scooters guide →
Kids' Gear
Strollers, car seats, cribs, bikes and the clothing sizes a child is out of in a season. Distinct from For Sale because it is the category a parent browses on purpose rather than stumbles into.
e.g. “Double jogging stroller, all-terrain wheels”
Read the kids' gear guide →
Wedding Resale
Dresses, veils, decor and rings sold on after the day. A valley that holds this many weddings produces a resale market the general For Sale category buries, and buyers search for it by name.
e.g. “Ivory A-line gown, size 6, altered once -- with veil”
Read the wedding resale guide →
Sports & outdoor gear
Skis, snowboards, camping gear, climbing gear, golf clubs and gym equipment, bought and sold by the season.
e.g. “Two-person tent and pads, used twice -- $70”
Other for sale
Anything for sale that has no category of its own: kitchen gear, decor, tools, instruments. Furniture, electronics, bikes, textbooks, kids' gear, sports gear and wedding items each have their own category now, because that is where buyers look.
e.g. “Stand mixer, works great -- $60”
Free
Curb alerts, moving boxes and everything else worth more to the next person than to the curb.
e.g. “Free moving boxes -- porch pickup, Provo”
Wanted (ISO)
The inverse of For Sale, and the request the board could not carry before v277: looking for a desk, a ride-along, a specific textbook, a short-term room.
e.g. “ISO a mini fridge before fall semester”

Housing

Sublets & roommates
Summer sublets and roommate openings -- the short-term half of the transaction that runs on BYU and UVU's academic calendar rather than a normal lease year. Selling a whole contract is a different job with different paperwork, and it has its own board at /housing-contracts/.
e.g. “Summer sublet near BYU -- Joaquin, $465/mo”
Family rentals
Houses, basement apartments and other rentals for families and non-students, the half of the housing market the student contract boards do not cover.
e.g. “3-bed basement apartment, Orem -- $1,450/mo, available Dec 1”
Read the family rentals guide →

Services

Services
Tutoring, moving help, photography, repairs -- neighbors offering work rather than businesses buying placement.
e.g. “Moving help with a truck -- Saturdays”

Jobs & gigs

Jobs & gigs
Part-time shifts, one-off gigs and campus-adjacent work -- the postings too small or too soon for a job board.
e.g. “Part-time barista, Center Street -- 15 hrs/wk”

Community

Rides & carpools
Rides to Salt Lake, the airport, St. George, Las Vegas or home for the holidays, and standing carpools. Split the gas; meet in a public place.
e.g. “Driving to St. George Fri 3pm -- 2 seats, split gas”
Read the rides & carpools guide →
Lost & Found
Keys, wallets, bikes and pets. Distinct from Free, which is about giving something away rather than returning it to whoever lost it.
e.g. “Found: set of keys near Rock Canyon trailhead”
Yard Sales
Saturday-morning sales, moving sales and multi-family blocks. This is the one category where a post is worthless the day after it runs, so listings here expire in a week rather than a month.
e.g. “Multi-family sale, Provo Bench -- Saturday 8am to noon”
Read the yard sales guide →
Tickets at face value
BYU and UVU games, concerts and shows, sold at face value or less. Provo.com never handles the payment; meet in person or transfer through the official ticket app.
e.g. “2 tickets, BYU vs Utah, sec 40 -- face value”
Read the tickets at face value guide →
Pets & pet supplies
Rehoming a pet, and crates, tanks, cages and supplies. Lost or found animals go in Lost & Found instead.
e.g. “Large dog crate and bed -- $40”
Read the pets & pet supplies guide →
