Communal is the restaurant most often named first when people describe what changed about eating in downtown Provo. It opened as a farm-to-table room at a time when that phrase still needed explaining locally, and it has stayed the reference point since -- the place a visitor gets taken when the point is to show that Provo has a dining scene rather than simply somewhere to eat.

Where it is

It is usually credited to Center Street, and it is not on Center Street -- it sits a block up University Avenue, on the same short stretch that also holds Black Sheep Cafe and Rockwell Ice Cream.
