Salt Lake City Restaurants Open on Sunday: A Neighborhood-by-Neighborhood List for Utah Valley Drivers

Twenty Salt Lake City restaurants with Sunday hours confirmed on their own sites, by neighborhood, plus the Sunday drive from Provo and what to check.

Most locally owned restaurants in Provo close on Sunday, and anyone who has stood outside a dark storefront at 1 p.m. knows it. Salt Lake City, about an hour north by car, is a different map. A good number of its independent restaurants serve on Sunday, several of them with a full brunch and dinner schedule. This page lists twenty of them, grouped by neighborhood, with each place's Sunday hours taken from its own website on November 5, 2026.

A note on method. A restaurant is on this list only if its own site, or its official ordering or reservation page, showed a Sunday window when we looked. Places whose sites would not load, listed no Sunday hours, or showed hours for a different business were left out, even when third-party listings said they were open. That makes the list shorter than a map search would give you, and more reliable. Hours change with the season and with staffing, so treat every time below as a starting point and confirm before you drive.

If you are staying in Utah Valley instead, start with our Provo Sunday restaurant guide. For a Salt Lake evening that is not tied to Sunday, our Salt Lake restaurants for a Utah Valley night out covers fourteen more tables.

Getting there from Provo on a Sunday

Drive. Our night-out guide, using OpenStreetMap routing from downtown Provo, puts the trip at about 45 miles and 50 to 60 minutes without traffic, with roughly 52 minutes to the Market Street area downtown and about an hour to Millcreek Canyon. Check a live traffic map before you leave, because a crash or construction can change the time. If you want to compare the route options before you go, our I-15 to Salt Lake commuter guide explains where the corridor slows down.

Train. This is the catch. UTA's FrontRunner page says the service "currently operates Monday through Saturday," and UTA's printed route 750 timetable carries a "No Service Sunday" line. The Salt Lake Central station sits at 250 S. 600 W., and on every other day it is a reasonable way to reach downtown, which our FrontRunner from Provo guide covers in detail. On Sunday it is not an option. Our Provo Sunday restaurant guide explains why the line is dark that day.

TRAX. UTA's TRAX page says the light rail runs seven days per week, with 15-minute frequency at peak times. That helps only after you are already in Salt Lake County, for example if you park at a Park & Ride lot and ride in. UTA's trip planner will tell you whether a Sunday ride works for your starting point. Our TRAX guide for Utah County riders covers the fares and the basics.

Plan around a car. In practice, Sunday dining in Salt Lake City from Provo means driving, parking and driving back. Most of the places below are in neighborhoods where street parking and nearby lots are common, but we did not verify parking for each one, so look at the restaurant's own page or call.

Utah liquor rules that matter on a Sunday

Utah's Division of Alcoholic Beverage Services (DABS) publishes the rules for restaurant licenses. According to its residents and visitors page, fetched today, full-service restaurants may serve liquor, wine, flavored malt beverages and heavy beer from 11:30 a.m. to midnight, and beer until 1 a.m. On weekends, which includes Sunday, service may begin at 10:30 a.m. Patrons must dine at the restaurant to be served an alcoholic beverage. The same page lists a similar weekend start for limited-service and beer-only restaurants.

In plain terms, a Sunday brunch can include a mimosa or a beer if the restaurant holds the right license and serves food with it. The rules set the outer limits. A restaurant can choose to start later, stop earlier or serve on a narrower menu, and bars, which are licensed separately, follow different hours. If a drink is part of the plan, ask the restaurant what it offers at the time you are going.

Downtown

Downtown has the densest cluster of Sunday options, and it is the easiest area to stay in for an afternoon of walking between a meal and an event.

1. The Copper Onion

111 East Broadway. The Copper Onion's site describes a brasserie-style restaurant serving American fare with extensive wine and cocktail menus. Its posted hours show Sunday service from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and again from 5 to 10 p.m., which makes it one of the few places on this list that covers both a late-morning meal and dinner. The site links to reservations.

2. Red Rock Brewing, Downtown

254 South 200 West. The downtown brewpub lists its hours as open daily, with Sunday from 10:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. Its site describes a scratch kitchen with wood-fired pizzas, beer-battered halibut fish and chips, burgers, baby back ribs, salads and weekend brunch, plus more than twenty Utah-brewed craft beers. The late Sunday close is the reason to know it. If you reach Salt Lake after a drive that took longer than planned, this is a kitchen that will still be running.

3. Settebello Pizzeria Napoletana

260 South 200 West. Settebello's locations page lists the Salt Lake City restaurant with Sunday hours of noon to 9 p.m., against 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday. The site describes Neapolitan pizza. By address it is on the same block of 200 West as Red Rock Brewing, so the two are an easy pair if a group cannot agree between pizza and a brewpub menu.

4. Himalayan Kitchen

360 State Street. The site lists Nepali and Indian cuisine, with curries, handmade naan, tandoori specialties and momos on its menu. Hours are 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday, but on Sunday it opens at 5 p.m. and closes at 10 p.m. This is a dinner-only Sunday, so it does not work for a lunch plan.

5. Beer Bar

161 East 200 South. Beer Bar's site lists hours of noon to 1 a.m., seven days a week, and links a food menu alongside the drink menu. It is the latest-closing entry on this page. Because the site does not say whether it operates as a bar or a restaurant under Utah's license rules, call first if you are bringing children or want to know whether food is served at the hour you plan to arrive.

6. Taqueria 27, Downtown

149 East 200 South. The Taqueria 27 site lists its Salt Lake downtown location with hours of 11:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 11:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday. The same site lists locations in Fashion Place, Holladay, Lehi and Eagle Mountain, so if a Sunday plan falls through, the Lehi location is the nearer one for a Utah Valley household. Confirm which location a given set of hours belongs to, because the site lists several in one footer.

7. Oasis Cafe

Near downtown, just blocks from the convention center. The cafe's own page describes a patio, a covered breezeway and a dining room, with American cafe-style cuisine from Chef Efren Nicholas and a wine list of 17 wines by the glass and more than 30 by the bottle. Its footer shows Monday through Sunday, 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., and the menu tabs include brunch and dinner. The page does not print a street address, so use the restaurant's reservation or order link, or a map search, to confirm the location.

8. Laurel Brasserie & Bar at the Grand America

555 South Main Street. The hotel's brunch page lists Sunday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., with chef-crafted dishes and live jazz, and links to reservations. The page also says the brunch is expanding to Saturdays in late November and December and notes holiday brunches on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year's Day. The page lists its own pricing and a reservations link, so read it before you commit a group.

The west side: Granary, the Post District and North Temple

9. Urban Hill

510 South 300 West, at the southwest corner of 500 South and 300 West. The restaurant's site lists Sunday hours of 5 to 9 p.m., and describes a wood-fired grill, an oyster bar, a curated wine list and weekend brunch. The site does not print brunch hours, so if brunch is the reason you are going, call or check the reservation page. It also links a parking map and parking video, which is more than most restaurants offer.

10. Red Iguana

736 West North Temple. Red Iguana lists Sunday hours of 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the original restaurant and at Red Iguana 2 on West South Temple (866 W South Temple). The site highlights its moles, including mole negro, amarillo and poblano, and offers a mole sampler, along with enchiladas, tacos, vegetarian options and margaritas. The family also runs Taste of Red Iguana in South Jordan, which the site lists as opening at 9 a.m. on Sunday. Its site links to reservations.

9th & 9th, Central City and the East Bench

The east side is where Sunday brunch lives. It is also where the streets are narrower and parking is the more likely complication.

11. Pago

878 South 900 East. Pago's site lists dinner daily, 5 to 9 p.m., which includes Sunday. It describes New American cuisine with an internationally recognized wine program, established in 2009 by owner and sommelier Scott Evans, and links reservations. The site's hours line mentions dinner only, so do not plan a Sunday lunch here.

12. Publik Kitchen

931 East 900 South. Publik Coffee Roasters' locations page lists Publik Kitchen with Saturday and Sunday hours of 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., against 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on weekdays, and a kitchen menu you can order from online. It sits in the 9th and 9th neighborhood. The same page lists Publik cafes in the Avenues (502 3rd Avenue) and at 975 S West Temple, both open Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., though those are coffee stops rather than kitchens.

13. Hub & Spoke Diner

1291 South 1100 East. The diner's site lists winter hours of 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday and describes breakfast, lunch and brunch with modern takes on comfort-food classics made from scratch, an espresso bar and a patio that allows dogs. It says Sunday reservations are accepted during two windows, 8 to 9:45 a.m. and 2 to 3 p.m., which implies that the middle of the morning is walk-in only. That is the part to plan around.

14. Ruby River

435 South 700 East. The Ruby River site lists the Salt Lake City restaurant with Sunday hours of 3 to 7 p.m., a shorter day than its 11 a.m. weekday opening. It posts dinner, lunch and drink menus. The same page lists the Provo restaurant at 1454 S University Avenue with Sunday hours of 1 to 7 p.m., so for a Utah Valley household the Provo location is the closer choice.

15. Pizzeria Limone, Downtown

613 East 400 South. The Pizzeria Limone locations page lists the downtown restaurant with Sunday hours of noon to 8 p.m., 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. The brand describes modern Neapolitan-style pizza. The same page lists a Provo restaurant at 422 W Rivers Edge Drive with the same Sunday hours, so a Salt Lake trip is not required for this one.

16. Rodizio Grill

600 South 700 East, second floor, Trolley Square. The Salt Lake restaurant's page lists Sunday brunch from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and dinner from 3 to 9 p.m., and describes endless rotisserie-grilled meats in a Brazilian steakhouse format inside the historic Trolley Square building. It posts December special hours, including closed on Christmas Day. Our Brazilian rodizio guide covers the Utah Valley side of the format.

17. Desert Edge Brewery at The Pub

273 Trolley Square. The brewery's site lists Sunday hours of 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. and a Sunday brunch menu served from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. alongside the regular menu. It describes itself as a Trolley Square fixture that opened in 1972. One flag: the homepage still carried a Pioneer Day holiday-hours notice from July when we read it, which suggests the page is not updated often. That makes a phone call to 801-521-8917 sensible before you go.

Sugar House

18. Hearth and Hill, Sugar House

2188 South Highland Drive. The restaurant's site lists Saturday and Sunday hours of 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., against 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekdays. That is a continuous Sunday window, with no afternoon break posted. The same site lists a Park City location at 1153 Center Drive with the same hours.

The canyons

Two classic Salt Lake destinations sit outside the grid, and both are open on Sunday.

19. Ruth's Diner

4160 East Emigration Canyon Road. The diner's site calls itself a tradition since 1930, and says it is minutes from downtown in Emigration Canyon. Posted hours show Sunday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., with the diner closed Tuesday and Wednesday. Breakfast is served from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and the bar opens at 10 a.m. daily. On a winter Sunday, check the weather before you drive up the canyon.

20. Log Haven

Millcreek Canyon. Log Haven's site lists hours of 5 to 9 p.m. on weekdays, 4:30 to 9 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday dinner from 5:30 to 9 p.m. It describes a log hideaway built in 1920 by L.F. Rains. Parties of seven to twelve are asked to call (801) 272-8255, and a credit card is required to hold a reservation for more than six. Millcreek Canyon is a drive of roughly an hour from downtown Provo by the same OpenStreetMap routing our night-out guide uses, so build in the extra time, and watch winter road conditions.

Closed on Sunday

It helps to know what to cross off. Mazza Cafe, at 1515 South 1500 East, states on its own site that it is closed Sundays, and shows dinner hours Monday through Saturday. Salt Lake's reputation as a Sunday-friendly city is true for the list above, not for every table. When a favorite from a weekday visit is not here, assume nothing and check.

Who this list is for

Utah Valley residents who want a different Sunday. If your Provo options are limited to a hotel kitchen, the hospital cafeteria and chains, a drive north opens a lot more. Our things to do in Provo on Sunday covers what stays local, and our family Sunday activities pair well with a lunch stop.

Visitors based in Provo. If you are staying here and want a Salt Lake meal, a late-morning departure that lands you downtown for a noon or 1 p.m. table is the simplest plan.

Groups that need a late-closing kitchen. Red Rock Brewing and Beer Bar are the late Sunday options on this page.

Who should skip this trip

Anyone counting on the train. There is no FrontRunner on Sunday. If you do not want to drive, stay in Utah Valley or plan the trip for a Saturday.

Anyone who needs a guaranteed table in a small window. Hub & Spoke Diner's morning reservation windows are narrow, and brunch at popular rooms can fill. If you cannot book and cannot wait, a closer Provo meal may be the better call. Our Provo versus Salt Lake comparison puts the two cities side by side.

Anyone who wants a lunch at a dinner-only Sunday restaurant. Himalayan Kitchen, Pago, Urban Hill and Log Haven all open for dinner on Sunday only.

Timing your Sunday

A rough pattern from the hours above: the diners and brunch rooms (Hub & Spoke, Publik Kitchen, Oasis, Copper Onion) open between 8 and 10:30 a.m. and several of them close by mid-afternoon. The brewpubs and pizza places hold through the evening. The dinner rooms open between 5 and 5:30 p.m. and close at 9 or 10. If you are leaving Provo in the late morning for a 1 p.m. meal, the brunch and all-day rooms are the natural fit. If you are leaving after church or an afternoon at home, aim for a 5 or 6 p.m. dinner and check closing times before you set out.

What to check before you go

  1. Open the restaurant's own page or call. Every time here was read from the restaurant's site on November 5, 2026. Holiday weekends and seasonal schedules change them.
  2. Reserve where it is offered. Copper Onion, Red Iguana, Pago, Urban Hill, Log Haven and the Grand America brunch all link to reservations from their sites.
  3. Look at the weather, especially for the canyons. Ruth's Diner and Log Haven are both up canyon roads.
  4. Ask about drinks if they matter. The state rule lets a restaurant start alcohol service at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, but each restaurant sets its own menu. The details are on the Utah DABS page.
  5. Decide how you are getting home. With no FrontRunner, the drive back is yours. The restaurants with the latest Sunday closings are Red Rock Brewing and Beer Bar.

What we could not confirm

Some well-known Salt Lake names are missing for a reason. Several restaurant sites would not load for us, blocked automated requests or listed no Sunday hours, including Salt & Olive, Blind Rabbit Kitchen, Avenues Proper and Market Street Grill, so they are not listed. Marmalade Brunch House in the Avenues showed an address but no Sunday hours on its page. Nothing here should be read as a statement that those places are closed. If you try one, verify it yourself. Our night-out guide lists some of them with hours taken from Google in October, which is a different source and date.

Back to Utah Valley

If a Salt Lake drive is more than your Sunday needs, our Provo Sunday restaurant guide and Sunday brunch list for Utah Valley cover the nearer options. And for a Salt Lake outing that is not a Sunday, the Salt Lake day trip from Provo pairs the train with a full day.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does FrontRunner run to Salt Lake City on Sunday?
No. UTA's FrontRunner page says the train operates Monday through Saturday, and the printed route 750 timetable marks Sunday as no service. Getting from Provo to a Salt Lake restaurant on a Sunday means driving, or driving to a point in Salt Lake County and switching to TRAX, which UTA says runs seven days a week.
How long is the drive from Provo to Salt Lake City?
Our Salt Lake night-out guide puts it at about 45 miles and 50 to 60 minutes without traffic from downtown Provo, using OpenStreetMap routing. A crash or construction can change that, so check a live traffic map before you leave.
Can Salt Lake restaurants serve alcohol on Sunday?
Yes, under a restaurant license. Utah's Division of Alcoholic Beverage Services (DABS) says full-service restaurants may serve liquor, wine and heavy beer from 11:30 a.m. to midnight, with service allowed to start at 10:30 a.m. on weekends, and that patrons must dine to be served. Each restaurant sets its own menu and hours inside those limits.
Which Salt Lake restaurants serve Sunday brunch?
On this list, the Copper Onion opens at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, Hub & Spoke Diner at 8 a.m., Hearth and Hill in Sugar House at 10 a.m., Desert Edge Brewery at The Pub at 10:30 a.m., Rodizio Grill at 11 a.m., Publik Kitchen at 8 a.m. and Laurel Brasserie & Bar at the Grand America from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oasis Cafe runs 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Are there Salt Lake City restaurants closed on Sunday?
Yes. Mazza Cafe on 1500 East states on its own site that it is closed Sundays. Other places that open Sunday only for dinner, such as Himalayan Kitchen (5 to 10 p.m.), Pago (5 to 9 p.m.) and Log Haven (5:30 to 9 p.m.), will not help if you want lunch.
Do I need a reservation on a Sunday?
It depends on the room. Hub & Spoke Diner says on its site that it takes Sunday reservations during set morning and early afternoon windows, and Red Iguana, Pago, Log Haven and the Grand America brunch all link to reservations. For a group, or around a game or concert, book ahead and confirm the time.
Where can I find Sunday restaurants in Provo instead?
Our Provo Sunday restaurant guide covers the hotel kitchens, hospital cafeteria and chains that stay open, and explains why so many independents close. Pizzeria Limone also lists a Provo location at 422 W Rivers Edge Drive with Sunday hours of noon to 8 p.m. on its own site.
