Downtown is where Provo acts like a city: Center Street and University Avenue lined with restaurants, the Covey Center, Velour, the Provo City Center Temple, and a growing stock of newer apartments and condos above and around it all. If you want to walk to dinner and a show, this is the neighborhood that delivers it.

Where it is

Roughly the blocks around the Center Street and University Avenue crossroads — north to about 300 North, south past the tracks toward Provo Central Station, between Freedom Boulevard on the west and 200 East.

The housing

The most urban mix in the city: newer mid-rise apartments and condos, lofts over storefronts, and early-1900s homes on the fringe blocks. Rentals dominate; single-family homes are the exception here.

Schools

Provo City School District serves the area; the closest elementaries are in the surrounding central neighborhoods. Attendance boundaries change, so confirm any address directly with the district before you count on a school.

Getting around

The easiest car-free base in the county: FrontRunner to Salt Lake from Provo Central Station (no Sunday service) and the free-with-qualifying-student-ID UVX line straight to BYU and UVU. Driving, I-15 is about five minutes via Center Street.

Parks & outdoors

  • Pioneer Park (with the splash pad and farmers market)
  • the Provo River Parkway is a short ride west

Walk or bike to

  • Center Street restaurants and nightlife
  • Provo City Center Temple
  • Covey Center for the Arts
  • Provo Central Station (FrontRunner + UVX)
  • Provo Recreation Center a few blocks north
Who it fits

Young professionals, remote workers, anyone who wants restaurants and transit over a yard.
