Correction, September 1, 2026. On May 12 this site published a post under the headline "Cheesecake Factory Coming to University Place This Fall." The Cheesecake Factory at University Place in Orem opened on July 2, 2024. It has been serving dinner for more than two years. The post was wrong, and this page replaces it at the same address so that anyone who bookmarked or shared it lands on the correction rather than the error.
What happened
University Place's news page carries the original announcement — "The Cheesecake Factory to open a new location in Utah County... this fall" — with no date on it. The announcement was issued in January 2024. The Daily Herald reported on May 15, 2024 that the company had set a July 2, 2024 opening and was hiring about 300 people for it. Our May post read the undated page as fresh, put a May 7, 2026 date on it, and described construction as just starting.
Nothing about the address, the neighbors, or the size was wrong. The date was, which for a news post is the whole story. A check of the company's own location page, which lists the Orem restaurant with hours, would have caught it in under a minute. That check is now on the list for every opening we report.
What is actually there
The restaurant sits on the west side of University Place near Dillard's, next to Itto Sushi, at 575 E. University Parkway. It took over the space Los Hermanos held from 2019 until it moved back to its old corner in downtown Provo. Roughly 8,500 square feet, the full national menu — the chain says more than 250 items and more than 30 cheesecakes — and weekend brunch.
The hours the chain lists as of our check: 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, until 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday, with brunch until 2 p.m. on weekends. Reservations are taken for parties of six or fewer, up to 30 days out. Confirm all of that on thecheesecakefactory.com before you go; hours are the first thing to drift.
Is there one in Provo?
No. The Orem location is the only one in Utah County that we can verify, and no Provo location has been announced. The confusion is understandable — University Place is a cross-town drive from central Provo, not a cross-county one — but if you are navigating, put Orem in the search.
Two years of reviews give a fair picture of what to expect. The consistent complaint is the wait: an hour or more for a table on busy evenings, and a check-in process people describe as disorganized when the lobby fills. The consistent praise is service once seated. Prices are what the chain charges everywhere, which is more than the Utah Valley independents on our best restaurants in Provo list, and the food is the same food as the Murray and City Creek locations. For something closer to campus, the best food near UVU list is a five-minute drive west. If you want a specific slice, the bakery counter sells whole cakes and slices to go without a table wait.
What this changes on the site
Our openings and closings tracker carried the restaurant as announced. It now reads open, with July 2, 2024 as the date. The Restaurant Finder and the University Place guide are unaffected, since neither promised a future opening.
We track every opening and closure we publish, and the rule for the tracker is that a row exists only over reporting we have verified. This row was the exception that proves why the rule is there.
