| Plan | Fall + Winter |
|---|---|
| Dining Plus | $5,680 |

Heritage Halls tenants are "encouraged—but not required—to purchase" a meal plan. The rates page lists no meal plan requirement for the other areas.
Helaman Halls or Heritage Halls?
Helaman Halls is residence-hall living: shared rooms with a sink, laundry in each hall, a basement kitchenette in most halls, a lounge with a big TV, sand volleyball and basketball courts. The Cannon Commons sits in the middle, and the BYU Creamery is next door. Shared and single suites are in David John Hall, for fall and winter only.
Heritage Halls is apartment living. "Most apartments at Heritage Halls have three shared bedrooms with two bathrooms," and tenants "share a kitchen among up to 5 roommates." Each building has music practice rooms with pianos and an activity room; the basement of 7 Heritage Halls has a rec room and a resource center for cooking, baking and sewing supplies. The Creamery on Ninth is within walking distance for groceries. One catch: there is no on-site parking at Heritage Halls, only off-site parking for registered vehicles.
Both are for full-time day students (at least 9 undergraduate credits). Each sets aside rooms for students 18 and younger and others for students who've turned 19 by a cutoff date, along with returning on-campus tenants.
How to apply and contract
BYU's checklist for newly admitted students:
- Submit the on-campus housing application as soon as possible.
- Explore the areas and take the virtual tours.
- Review meal plans, rates and payments, and read the housing guidelines and terms.
- Submit roommate requests (optional).
- Watch your housing message board for your assigned contracting date and time.
- Contract at your assigned time. A $100 deposit and a one-time $50 nonrefundable processing fee are due when you sign.
- Join the waiting list if your first-choice area is full.
BYU says on-campus housing "is available to all matriculated students regardless of marital status or age." Contracting dates for 2027-28 were listed as TBA when we checked. Haven't been admitted yet? The Fall 2027 freshman deadline is Dec. 15; see applying to BYU for Fall 2027.
Paying
Fall-Winter agreements are 10 monthly payments, due on the 1st from July through April: July through November cover Fall, December through April cover Winter. BYU charges a late fee on or after the 10th of the month. Winter-only agreements are five payments, and Spring and Summer agreements are two payments each. These are term contracts with one price for the whole period.
On campus or off?
For comparison, BYU tuition for Latter-day Saint students is $3,548 a semester in 2026-27 (BYU tuition). Off campus, our student housing search guide covers that market, and married students should read BYU married student housing.
