Baby Classes in Utah Valley: BYU's Free Parent/Infant Music Class, Parent-and-Baby Swim, Kindermusik, Sign Language and the Free Library Option

Classes for babies under 2 in Utah Valley: BYU's Parent/Infant music class, Lehi's parent-child swim, Kindermusik, ASL and what the AAP says on infant swim.

For babies under 2, Utah Valley's classes fall into four groups: music, swim, sign language and the free library storytime that most families start with. The standouts are a free Parent/Infant music class at BYU for babies 1 to 8 months and Lehi's Parent/Child Aquatics class for 6 months to 2 years. Here is what each costs, when it meets, and what the evidence says about starting this young.

Older toddlers and preschoolers have more options; our kids' art, music and craft classes guide and the toddler activities guide pick up where this one stops.

The free one first: library storytime

Before you pay for anything, try the free version. Utah County's city libraries run baby and toddler storytimes built around songs, rhymes and bounces, and they are free. Our storytime guide lists the weekly schedule at every library, by city. For many families, that is the baby class.

Music

BYU Young Musicians Academy: Parent/Infant (1 to 8 months)

BYU's School of Music runs the Young Musicians Academy, a music program for young children and their parents that the Daily Herald reported was in its 40th year in January 2025. It is led by a team of BYU music and education students under a longtime director. The academy's site lists these classes:

Class Age When and where (2025-26 listing) Cost
Parent/Infant 1 to 8 months by Sept. 1 Wednesdays 12:30 to 1:15 p.m., 1233 Music Building, BYU; fall semester only Free ("new class offered for free"), no deposit
Parent/Toddler 20 months to 2 years by Sept. 1 Saturdays 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., 1233 Music Building, September to April $325 early bird or $350 after June 15 ($315/$340 per child for siblings); $50 non-refundable deposit
Music Explorers, Makers, Creators 3 to 6 years See site See site

Infants and caregivers attend together. The listing we read in October 2026 still described the 2025-26 year, so check yma.byu.edu for the current semester before you plan around it. Note the gap: the site lists no class for babies between about 9 and 19 months.

Kindermusik with Miss Sarah, Pleasant Grove

Kindermusik's Utah directory listed eight Utah studios in October 2026, and only one in Utah County: Kindermusik with Miss Sarah, at 607 North 500 East, Pleasant Grove. The program says it serves children from birth through age 7. Its class finder showed:

No price was posted. If you want a spot, ask to be added to a waitlist. The nearest other Kindermusik programs on the directory were in Draper, Sandy and South Jordan.

Music Together

We could not confirm a Music Together center in Utah County in October 2026. The company's online class locator is the place to check.

Swim

What the AAP says first

The American Academy of Pediatrics describes swim lessons as "a layer of protection against drowning that can begin for many children starting at age 1." For babies under 1, it says there is no evidence that infant swim programs lower drowning risk, but that parent-child water play classes are fine for helping a baby get comfortable in the pool. Lessons never make a child drown-proof, and for infants and toddlers near water, the AAP says an adult should be within arm's reach at all times, which it calls touch supervision.

So the honest pitch for a baby swim class is comfort and fun in warm water, with a parent in the pool, not drowning prevention.

Lehi Legacy Center: Parent/Child Aquatics (6 months to 2 years)

Lehi's fall 2026 Red Cross swim lesson flyer lists Parent/Child Aquatics for ages 6 months to 2 years, "designed to help children become comfortable in the water with their parent's help."

Provo and Orem

Provo's swim school lists an Aqua Tots group lesson at the Recreation Center's indoor pool. The city's Aquatic Programs page does not give its ages or format; our swim lessons guide describes it as the youngest level, with an adult in the water. Call Provo Recreation at 801-852-6620 to confirm the age range before registering.

Orem's swim lesson page lists private, semi-private, two-week and subscription lessons and an adult program, but no parent-and-baby class in October 2026. Its fitness center does offer childcare from 3 months, which matters for parents who want to swim laps themselves; see the postpartum fitness guide.

Warm-water play without a class. Rec center leisure pools work for parent-and-baby floating any time you pay admission. Our indoor pools guide compares them.

Sign language

Signing Time is a Utah story: the children's sign language series comes from Two Little Hands Productions, which made its first Signing Time video in 2002 and lists a mailing address in Midvale.

For in-person instruction:

If your baby has been diagnosed as deaf or hard of hearing, USDB's Parent Infant Program serves children from birth to 3. It is free, built around home visits planned through an Individual Family Service Plan, and includes ASL resources, toddler groups and story time. Eligibility is based on a hearing diagnosis. Call 801-629-4768 or use the secure referral form on usdb.org.

Sensory classes

The "baby sensory" class format popular in the United Kingdom did not turn up in Utah County when we searched in October 2026. The closest local equivalents are library baby storytimes and the music classes above. Indoor play spaces with baby areas are covered in our trampoline parks and indoor play guide.

How to pick

Whatever you choose, keep it light. A missed week because of a nap or a cold costs nothing at storytime and little at most of these. For the first months, our first six weeks postpartum guide is a reminder that recovery comes first, and in winter our baby's first winter guide covers when to skip crowded rooms.

Do baby classes make babies smarter?
We did not find evidence that would let us promise that, and the providers on this page do not claim it in the material we read. The better reasons are practical: a weekly reason to leave the house, songs and routines to use at home, and other parents with babies the same age.
