Indoor Pools and Lap Swimming in Utah Valley: Every Public Lane, Its Hours, Its Price, and When It Is Crowded

Lap swimming indoors in Utah Valley: Orem's 50-meter pool and the Provo, Lehi, American Fork, Springville and Spanish Fork pools, with hours and day rates.

The best lap pool in Utah Valley is not at a university. It is in Orem, inside a city fitness center attached to a high school, and it is 50 meters long. The rest of the county's public indoor lanes are in five other city recreation centers, each 25 yards or so, each closed on Sunday, each with its own crowd pattern.

This guide is for swimmers: where the lanes are, when you can get one, what a drop-in swim costs, and the catches. For splash pads, waterparks, the lake and swim lessons, see where to swim in Utah Valley. Prices and hours are as each city listed them in October 2026.

Sunday: all six list Sunday as closed.

Orem Family Fitness Center: the 50-meter pool

A long-course pool changes how a workout feels: fewer walls, longer sets. If you train for triathlon or open water, this is the one to know. Orem's leisure pool toys run at 3 p.m. on weekdays and noon on Saturday, which tells you when the family crowd arrives.

The full building guide, with the rules that catch first-time visitors, is our Provo Recreation Center guide.

Clyde Recreation Center, Springville: the most lanes in the south

Clyde also has an activity pool with slides and a spa, and an outdoor pool in season. Springville's FAQ says 9 laps of the indoor track equal a mile, if you want to add a dry workout.

Lehi Legacy Center: early and late hours are for members

American Fork Fitness Center: the bubble

Spanish Fork FitCity Center: the newest

Spanish Fork opened the FitCity Center in December 2025, a 136,000-square-foot, $75 million building, the Daily Herald reported. Its indoor aquatics include a competition pool, a leisure pool, a lazy river, a waterslide and a diving area; outdoors there is a seasonal leisure pool area.

Spanish Fork had not published a lap lane schedule on its registration site when we checked. Call 801-804-4646 on weekdays.

The university pools

BYU. The Richards Building has an instruction pool and a competition pool, but BYU limits access to eligible students, faculty, staff, spouses, dependents and sponsored guests with a BYU facilities membership. Lane reservations are not available, circle swimming is expected when busy, swim attire must meet BYU's policy (women's suits must cover the midriff), and the pools are closed Sundays. Guests need a sponsoring member and a guest pass from Membership Services.

UVU. We found no pool listed for UVU's Student Life and Wellness Center and no public lap swim program in October 2026. Earlier Provo.com guides have mentioned a UVU pool; we could not confirm one, so swimmers in Orem should plan on the Orem Family Fitness Center.

Private gyms with pools

Some VASA Fitness clubs in the county have pools, and VASA's clubs open on Sundays (7 a.m. to 4 p.m. at most Utah County clubs in Google's October 2026 listings; the Provo club showed Sunday closed). Pools are not at every location, so check the specific club. For the full gym comparison, see every gym in Utah Valley, compared.

Choosing a pool

Want coaching instead of laps? Our swim teams and swim clubs guide covers masters and club options, and swim lessons covers learning. If a pool is part of rehab after an injury, our physical therapy guide explains how to start PT without a referral. Winter runners can pair a swim with an indoor track; see indoor tracks and winter running.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a 50-meter pool in Utah Valley?
Yes. Orem's Family Fitness Center, at 575 West Center Street, lists a 50-meter lap pool. It is open Monday through Saturday from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m., and adult daily admission was $6.50 as listed in October 2026.
Where can I swim laps on Sunday in Utah County?
Not at a city pool. Every city recreation center in this guide lists Sunday as closed, and BYU's pools close on Sunday too. Some private gyms with pools open on Sundays; check the individual club's hours.
Can the public swim at BYU?
Not as walk-ins. BYU says access to the Richards Building pools is for eligible BYU students, faculty, staff, spouses, dependents and sponsored guests with the right membership or pass. Guests must be sponsored by an eligible member.
Does UVU have a pool?
We found no pool listed for UVU's Student Life and Wellness Center, and no public lap swim program at UVU, in October 2026.
How much does lap swimming cost at the Provo Rec Center?
Provo's fee page lists daily admission at $7 for adults 18 to 59 and $6 for youth and seniors, the same for residents and non-residents. Memberships are cheaper per visit for regular swimmers and cost less for Provo residents.
When is the Provo Rec Center competition pool least crowded?
Provo says weekday peak times are roughly 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 4 to 6:30 p.m., when lap swimmers, swim teams and classes are asked to share lanes. The city posts a daily lap lane schedule as a PDF.
Is the American Fork pool indoors?
Partly, by season. American Fork says its competition pool and hot tub are outdoors in summer and enclosed in a bubble during colder months so they can be used year-round. The leisure pool was listed as closed until May 2026.
Do I need a membership to swim laps at the Lehi Legacy Center?
For the extended early-morning and late-evening hours, yes. Lehi says daily admission covers the 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. public hours, while pass holders get extended hours from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m., and its lap pool page lists member-only lap swimming windows.
