Utah Valley's group riding is organized through a handful of shops, two advocacy groups and a lot of posts. There are few fixed weekly rides published on a website. What exists in public: shop Strava clubs, an Orem riders' group that meets monthly at a bike shop, Provo's May calendar of open rides, school bike buses, and high school mountain bike teams. This page is the map of who to follow and where to show up. For the climbs and loops themselves, start with our guide to road cycling in Utah Valley.
Where rides get posted
Mad Dog Cycles' Strava club. Mad Dog Cycles, at 350 North Orem Boulevard, says on its Local Rides and Clubs page that its free Strava club is where it offers "group rides and events + prize giveaways." The club had 472 members in October 2026. Event details show only to members, so join to see them.
Four Facebook groups. The same page sends riders to four groups by discipline: MTB Utah County, Road Bike Utah County, eBike Utah and Fat Bike Utah. These are where informal rides, lost-and-found and trail conditions get posted.
The Trek Ride Club app. Mad Dog, a Trek dealer, also promotes Trek's Ride Club app, which records rides and pays out rewards.
The practical move for a newcomer is to join the Strava club and the Facebook group for your kind of riding in the same evening, then ask in the shop which rides suit your pace. Our road cycling guide makes the point that matters most: ask about pace before showing up, because the gap between a no-drop social ride and a race-pace ride is large.
The clubs that meet in person
Orem Bicycle Coalition
A local group working to make Orem more bicycle-friendly so that more residents can and want to ride. It meets the second Wednesday of every month at 5:30 p.m. at Mad Dog Cycles, and the invitation is open. If you ride in Orem and have opinions about a crossing, a bike lane or a missing connection, this is the room.
BikeWalk Provo
A nonprofit that advocates for streets that make it safe, convenient and fun to get around Provo by bike or on foot. It works with Provo City and UDOT on bike lanes and trails, including protected lanes on Cougar Boulevard and neighborhood byways like 200 East, and pushes for a citywide 20 mph limit on residential streets. On the ground, it runs bike valets at events, installs bike racks, helps families start school bike buses, and organizes Provo's Bike Month rides. It is the closest thing Provo has to a general-interest cycling club, and its newsletter is how you hear about the rides.
Provo Bike Hub (paused)
Provo's nonprofit community bike shop launched on May 2, 2025, started by former staff and volunteers of the now-closed Provo Bicycle Collective. In its first season it ran social rides from Pando Refitters at 249 North University Avenue: a Friday picnic ride to Bicentennial Park, an evening birding ride to Utah Lake, and an overnight bikepacking trip to Big Springs. In October 2026 its site said it had paused operations at Pando and suspended volunteer hours while it works toward a long-term home. Bikes it refurbished are still for sale inside Pando Refitters. Watch its events page for a restart. Our bikepacking guide covers Big Springs and the other overnights.
May is when the open rides happen
Bike Month is the one time each year when Provo's rides are published in advance, open to everyone and free. BikeWalk Provo's 2026 calendar gives the pattern:
- Bike to Work (or Anywhere) Day, Thursday, May 14: swap one car trip for a bike ride.
- Golden Spoke, Saturday, May 16: a regional ride celebrating more than 170 miles of connected trails from Provo to Ogden, with starting points and distances along the whole Wasatch Front. Provo's piece was the Mayor's Family Ride, starting at Paul Ream Wilderness Park at 10 a.m. and looping about 7.5 miles west along the Provo River Trail toward the delta observation tower and back. No registration; bring water and helmets.
- Ride of Silence, Wednesday, May 20, 7 p.m., from Dixon Middle School: a slow, silent ride, held around the world on the same night, honoring cyclists injured or killed on public roads.
- Bike Shortcuts Tour, Part 1, Friday, May 29, 5 p.m., from the north bike racks at Macey's: a guided ride through the cut-throughs between BYU and the Riverwoods, mostly paved with some gravel.
Dates move each year; the shape does not. Check BikeWalk Provo's Bike Month page in April.
Riding with kids: bike buses
A bike bus is a group of children riding to school together, with or without adults. BikeWalk Provo helps parents start them and points to two working examples: a bike bus at Timpanogos Elementary in Provo, started by its members, and a weekly bike bus in Orem that one parent has led for more than two years. Both post rides on Instagram (@timpanogosbikebus and @ride.it.out). BikeWalk Provo has a recorded webinar for parents and links Utah's Safe Routes to School guide, and it offers to help any school start one.
Teenagers: the NICA teams
NICA, the National Interscholastic Cycling Association, is the program behind school-based mountain bike teams, and its Utah teams practice and race through a season. Mad Dog Cycles runs a NICA Athlete Maintenance Program for current athletes and coaches: three service packages across the season, maintenance classes and priority service, for $499.95 per bike per season as posted in October 2026. Ask your school or the shop which team covers your area. Our mountain biking guide covers the trails the teams train on.
For students
BYU has a Campus Rideables Committee of students, staff and faculty, the successor since 2023 to the campus bicycle committee founded in 2016. It meets during fall and winter semesters and takes project ideas at bikecommittee@byu.edu. The League of American Bicyclists rated BYU a silver-level Bicycle-Friendly Campus in 2018. BYU Outdoors Unlimited, 2201 North Canyon Road, rents bikes by the day, tandems included, and rents to students by the semester. Our bike commuting guide covers getting to class.
The shops, and the Sunday gap
Shops are the front door to most rides here. Brand notes come from each shop's site or BikeWalk Provo's shop list. None of these open on Sunday, according to their Google listings in October 2026, so a Saturday breakdown waits until Monday or Tuesday.
