The easiest group run to find in Utah Valley leaves a running store in Orem every Wednesday at 5:50 p.m., and the newest is a free timed 5K on Saturday mornings at the Provo River delta that officially starts on November 21, 2026. Between those two sit a store racing team, a university club, a professional club with a free community tier and a youth team. Most of the rest of the valley's group running happens through Strava and Instagram, which is why it is hard to see from outside. This page is the map.
The standing runs
Runner's Corner, Wednesday evening
835 South 700 East, Orem. The family-owned running store's Strava club, which had 3,310 members in October 2026, posts a standing invitation to everyone: the Wednesday Evening Group leaves the store each Wednesday at 5:50 p.m. for an easy 4 to 6 miles. The club describes itself as welcoming all abilities, "social and serious."
The same club lists Trail Wednesdays at 5:15 p.m., led by two regulars and starting at a different Utah County trailhead each week. Locations go up on the club page two or three days before the run, so join the club on Strava to see them.
The store's own community page says its group activities are posted on Strava and Instagram rather than on its site. It is closed on Sundays.
Provo River Delta Gateway parkrun, Saturday morning
Delta Gateway Park, 311 North Lakeshore Drive, Provo. parkrun is a worldwide movement of free, weekly, timed 5Ks, and Provo is getting one. The event's page lives on the site of Provo's Roadrunner youth club, and its organizers began practice events on Saturday, October 17, 2026, and list the official start as November 21, 2026. Their page gives the start time as 8 a.m. from May to October and 9 a.m. from November to April, so the winter launch will run at 9.
There is no fee, no qualifying time and no expectation of speed. You can run it, jog it with friends, walk it, or volunteer (if you want to bring a stroller, check with the Provo organizers first), and many of the volunteer jobs still let you take part. The course is flat, through the Provo River and Utah Lake area, and the organizers describe it as easy to follow for beginners and fast enough for anyone testing fitness. Register once with parkrun, for free, and bring your personal barcode each week so your time is recorded; the same registration works at parkruns anywhere in the world.
Before the official launch, the Provo event was not yet listed on parkrun USA's own site (as of October 20, 2026), so the organizers' page is the place to check practice dates. The park itself is the new delta restoration area, and our Provo River delta birding guide explains what was built there.
The clubs
Runner's Corner Racing Team
For runners who race at a high level, the same Orem store fields a racing team. Membership is by application against posted standards. The sub-elite marks are a 16:30 5K, 1:15 half and 2:40 marathon for men, and an 18:00 5K, 1:23 half and 3:05 marathon for women; elite standards are faster. This is a team, not a social run, and the Wednesday group is the place for everyone else.
Run Elite Program (REP), Springville
REP is a professional running club based in Springville. Its athletes include Jared Ward, who finished sixth in the marathon at the 2016 Olympics and is the club's team captain, and Clayton Young, who made the 2024 Olympic team in the marathon. Alongside the professional team, REP runs a community club. In October 2026 the REP Club Membership was listed at $0 a year, and it includes basic training plans, a Strava group, access to REP seminars, partner discounts, newsletters and community runs. REP asks club members to join USA Track and Field, which costs $25 a year, because the club's insurance runs through USATF.
REP's events page says it holds camps and events through the year, some for members only and some open to everyone, and "micro-events" for members such as group runs with the professionals, club breakfasts and talks with physical therapists. Dates go out by email, so sign up on the site to hear about them.
BYU Running Club
BYU has a student running club, separate from its varsity cross-country and track teams. In a 2023 Daily Universe story, a BYU senior described joining it after returning from a mission with no team to run with, and a UVU student described training with it to chase a sub-five-minute mile. Club rules and leadership change with each school year, so ask the current officers before you show up. Our guide to intramurals and club sports at BYU and UVU explains how student clubs work on both campuses.
Roadrunner Club (youth)
Roadrunner Club is a youth distance team for elementary and middle schoolers, started by BYU professor John Hedengren and his family when his daughter had no one to run with in seventh grade, as the Daily Universe reported in January 2026. Its home practice location is Sertoma Park in Provo. During the school year the elementary team practices Monday and Wednesday 3:35 to 4:30 p.m. and Friday 3:05 to 4:30 p.m.; the middle school and varsity team practices Monday, Wednesday and Friday 3:05 to 4:30 p.m. Summer practices run Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings, 7 to 8:30. A second group meets at the Spanish Fork Sports Complex on Wednesdays and Fridays at 4 p.m. The club groups runners by ability, age and training history, and the new parkrun's page lives on its site.
The stores that are building theirs
UtahRUN, 677 North State Street, Lindon. The Lindon running store's site describes group runs with "no pace requirement, no sign-up, nobody left behind at the back," and its coaching page lists group runs as one of three coaching options. In October 2026 the day, time and meeting point were still marked as pending on both pages, so call the store at (801) 384-7200 before planning around it.
If you want a coached class instead
Twenty One Run, at 10690 South River Front Parkway in South Jordan, runs coached running classes on treadmills, plus outdoor and social runs, as a membership studio. It is outside Utah County, about 20 minutes north of Lehi's Main Street, but it is the closest dedicated running studio and an option for anyone who wants structure through the winter. Our guide to indoor tracks and winter running covers the cheaper indoor options in the county.
What to know before your first group run
- Easy means conversational. An "easy 4 to 6" is run at a pace where people talk. If you cannot hold a conversation, slow down; the group will regroup.
- Altitude is real for newcomers. Downtown Provo sits at about 4,550 feet, by the U.S. Geological Survey's elevation data. Expect your usual pace to feel harder for the first few weeks. Our running routes guide covers altitude and the two air-quality seasons, winter inversions and summer ozone.
- Trail runs climb. A Wednesday trail run starting at a Bonneville Shoreline trailhead begins with a hill. Trail shoes, water and a light in the fall are the usual kit.
- Evenings get dark early. From late fall through winter, the 5:50 p.m. Wednesday run ends in the dark. Wear something reflective and carry a light.
- Races are group runs with a bib. The recurring 5Ks, the canyon halves and the trail races draw the same local runners every year, and many people find their running friends there. Our Utah Valley race calendar lists them by month.
Finding the rest
Many of the valley's smaller groups, from neighborhood morning crews to social run clubs, post only on Instagram or in Strava clubs, and they appear and fade with their organizers. Three ways to find them:
- Search Strava clubs by city. Runner's Corner's club is the model: a description, a standing time and posted events.
- Ask at the counter. Running stores host or know most of the groups in their area.
- Ask where you live. Apartment complexes, student wards and neighborhoods often have their own early-morning groups. Our guide to making friends in Provo has more on the social side.
