In February 2034 the Winter Olympics come back to Utah, 32 years after the 2002 Games. The International Olympic Committee elected Salt Lake City-Utah as host on July 24, 2024, and the Games are set for February 10 to 26, 2034, under the name Utah 2034. The plan leans on what 2002 built: the IOC says ten of the thirteen competition sites are reused from those Games, and every venue is within an hour of the Olympic Village at the University of Utah. One of them is in Provo.

Utah County's venue: Peaks Ice Arena
Peaks Ice Arena, Provo, about 7 minutes. Ice hockey. The two-sheet arena at 100 North Seven Peaks Boulevard was built for the 2002 Games, and today it is home to Utah Valley University's men's hockey team and year-round public skating. The Salt Lake Valley venues
- Delta Center, Salt Lake City, about 53 minutes. Ice hockey. The downtown arena hosted figure skating and short track in 2002, when it was called the Salt Lake Ice Center; it is now home to the NHL's Utah Mammoth.
- Maverik Center, West Valley City, about 49 minutes. Figure skating and short track speed skating. It hosted hockey in 2002.
- Utah Olympic Oval, Kearns, about 51 minutes. Long-track speed skating, on the same 400-meter oval as 2002.
- Salt Palace Convention Center, Salt Lake City, about 53 minutes. Curling, along with the international broadcast and press centers. Curling moved here from the Ice Sheet in Ogden, its 2002 home.
- Block 85, downtown Salt Lake City. Ski and snowboard big air, new to the Utah Games, on a temporary ramp on a downtown block two blocks from Temple Square, which will also serve as the medal plaza.
- Rice-Eccles Stadium, University of Utah, about 58 minutes. The opening and closing ceremonies, as in 2002. The Olympic Village is on the same campus.
The mountain venues
- Soldier Hollow, near Midway, about 42 minutes. Cross-country skiing, biathlon and the cross-country half of Nordic combined, as in 2002. See Soldier Hollow for what it offers the public now.
- Utah Olympic Park, Park City, about 67 minutes. Bobsled, luge and skeleton on the sliding track, ski jumping and the jumping half of Nordic combined, and cross and parallel events.
- Park City Mountain and Deer Valley, about an hour. Freestyle skiing and snowboarding events, split between the two resorts. Deer Valley's new East Village base is about 51 minutes from Provo up Provo Canyon.
- Snowbasin, above Ogden, about an hour and 45 minutes. Alpine skiing, including the downhill, on the mountain that held the 2002 speed events.
The plan has already changed once
Venue plans shift over eight years, and this one already has. The bid put hockey at the Maverik Center, as in 2002, with figure skating and short track at the Delta Center. In October 2024, with the NHL's arrival in Salt Lake City, organizers moved hockey to the renovated Delta Center and figure skating and short track to the Maverik Center, and the Utah Olympic Legacy Foundation confirmed the swap in 2025. Curling, too, moved from the Ice Sheet in Ogden to the Salt Palace. Expect the details to keep moving until the schedule is published.
Why so little is being built
Utah's pitch to the IOC was reuse. The 2002 venues were kept running, and the Utah Olympic Legacy Foundation still operates the Oval, the Utah Olympic Park and Soldier Hollow year-round. The IOC's summary of the plan says no additional transport or housing infrastructure is being built for the Games. Practical notes
- Skate the Olympic ice now. Peaks Ice Arena and the Oval both run public sessions.
- Visit the venues now. Soldier Hollow and the Utah Olympic Park are open to the public year-round.
- Expect changes. The hockey swap shows the plan is not final.
