Deer Valley has always been the special-occasion mountain on the Wasatch Back: skiers only, famous for its grooming and its service, and priced to match. In the last two seasons it has been transformed. Its Expanded Excellence project, which Deer Valley calls the largest expansion in ski resort history, has more than doubled its skiable terrain and built a second front door, Deer Valley East Village, on US-40. For Utah County that new door matters, because it is closer to Provo than any resort in the Cottonwood canyons.
The drive, and the new front door
OpenStreetMap routing puts Deer Valley East Village about 38 miles and 51 minutes from downtown Provo without traffic: up Provo Canyon on US-189, past Heber and north on US-40, with no need to drive through Park City at all. The original Snow Park base, on the Park City side, is about 47 miles and 63 minutes.
East Village has 1,200 day-skier parking spaces and a skier services facility with ski school and rentals. From the base, the 10-passenger East Village Express gondola climbs to Park Peak.
The expansion
Since December 2024, Deer Valley has added 11 new chairlifts, counting that gondola, and nearly 100 new runs, 80 of them in 2025-26. For 2026-27 the resort says it will have 4,500 skiable acres, and Ski Utah lists its opening day as December 5. The new terrain is skiers-only, like the rest of the mountain.
The expansion also changes the character of a Deer Valley day. The old mountain's reputation was for impeccable grooming and short lift lines; the new east side adds beginner and intermediate terrain at East Village and Park Peak, and more room to spread out.
The price
Deer Valley is among the most expensive days of skiing in Utah. Prices vary by date, and the resort limits how many tickets it sells each day, which Deer Valley says keeps the mountain from feeling overrun. The resort's own advice is to buy online, in advance.
For season skiers, Deer Valley sells its own passes: the 2026-27 Unlimited Pass starts at $4,300, and the Utah Limited Pass, for Utah residents, covers Monday through Thursday outside peak blackouts from $1,795.
The Ikon Pass
The full Ikon Pass includes up to seven days at Deer Valley, and for many Utah County skiers that is the best way to ski it. The pass covers seven days with no blackout dates; check the Ikon account for the season's reservation rules before you plan a day. The cheaper Ikon Base Pass does not include Deer Valley at all. When it is worth it
Deer Valley is worth the price for a Utah County skier in three situations:
- You hold a full Ikon Pass. Seven days are already paid for, and East Village is under an hour from Provo.
- Everyone in the group skis. There is no snowboarding, so mixed groups should look at Park City Mountain instead.
- It is a special day. For a birthday, an anniversary or a visiting family's one big day, the grooming, the service and the limited ticket sales are what the price buys.
For a family paying lift-ticket prices on an ordinary Saturday, the math usually points to a closer or cheaper mountain.
Practical notes
- Use East Village from Utah County. It is the quickest way in, up Provo Canyon.
- Check Ikon rules early. Confirm how Deer Valley days are booked on your pass before a big weekend.
- Skis only. Snowboarders cannot ride here.
- Buy tickets online. Daily sales are limited.
