Utah Valley has one strong candle studio, one make-your-own soap studio and one serious soap-supply shop, all in Provo. It does not have a resin studio; we looked and found none. This guide covers what exists, what each costs where posted, and where to go when the craft you want is not here.
Hours are as listed on Google or each business's site in October 2026.
Candles
The Wick Lab, Provo
271 North University Avenue. A pour-your-own candle studio with four Utah locations (Provo, Draper, Sugar House and Ogden), all on the same schedule: Monday to Thursday 3 to 9 p.m., Friday 3 to 10 p.m., Saturday 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., closed Sunday.
How it works, from the studio's own pages:
- You choose up to three fragrances from a wall of 100 and blend your own scent, set your wick and pour.
- Candles cost $24.99 to $36.99 depending on the container, materials included. Lids, wood wicks and other add-ons cost extra.
- There is a $1 booking fee per participant, non-refundable and not applied to your total.
- A session takes about 45 minutes to an hour.
- Walk-ins are welcome if seats are free. A reservation's head count should match the number of candles made; observers are welcome but are not participants.
- Candles stay to set. Pick up within 14 days; same-day pickup may be possible about three hours after pouring if you tell staff during the session, but not for candles poured after 6 p.m. Shipping is a flat $18 for up to three candles.
The Wick Lab also offers group experiences, private parties, on-site events at your location, custom orders and an online candle bar. Its special workshops vary by location; in fall 2026 the Draper and Ogden studios ran a Skull Paint and Pour workshop from $40, for ages 8 and up, up to 75 minutes, with up to 10 people.
Our guide to craft studios and paint nights covers what a session feels like and how to care for the candle afterward. For which evenings it pairs with other studios, see craft nights by night of the week.
Beyond Provo
The next nearest Wick Lab is in Draper, about 33 minutes north of downtown Provo (OSRM routing, no traffic). In Salt Lake City, The Wicksmith Candle Company (962 East 900 South) runs custom candle-making sessions on a short schedule: Friday 2 to 6 p.m., Saturday noon to 7 and Sunday noon to 5, which makes it one of the few Sunday options on the Wasatch Front.
Soap
The Soap Factory, Provo
54 West Center Street. A make-your-own soap studio a block from The Wick Lab on Center Street. Google lists it as open weekdays 6 to 9 p.m. and Saturday noon to 9 p.m. Visitors describe a self-guided process with staff on hand: you choose a mold, color and scent, mix and pour the soap, and can paint the finished bars. Aprons and work mats are provided. We did not find posted prices, so ask when you book.
Reviewers' tips worth passing on: the scents are essential-oil based, the soap sets quickly so you need to stir in color and scent fast, and the process is messier than a candle pour.
Pine Meadows, Provo: supplies and real soap classes
1022 South 350 East. For people who want to make soap at home, this is the local supplier. Pine Meadows sells natural ingredients and containers for soap, lotion, lip balm and other personal-care products, runs soap-making and lotion-making classes, and posts a free lye calculator on its site: enter your oils and preferred superfat, and it calculates the lye and liquid you need.
The catch is the hours. Walk-in customers are served Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with staff picking items off the shelves for you; you can also order online and choose pickup. In October 2026 it posted a few Saturday openings (9 a.m. to 2 p.m.) and an early 2 p.m. close on October 23. Phone: (801) 375-2417.
Cold-process soap uses lye (sodium hydroxide), which is caustic. A class before your first batch is worth the money.
Soaplicity, Pleasant Grove: buy it or buy the ingredients
93 South Main Street, Suite B. A handmade soap and bath shop in downtown Pleasant Grove, open Monday to Friday 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday until 5. It sells bars, lotions, bath bombs and gift sets, and its site also sells DIY ingredients and containers. About 17 minutes from downtown Provo.
Resin: the gap
Resin art means pouring tinted epoxy into molds, over boards or onto tumblers. We did not find a studio in Utah County where you can do it with an instructor in October 2026. Options:
Hawaii Fluid Art, Salt Lake City. At 150 South Rio Grande Street, a fluid-art studio open Tuesday to Thursday noon to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday to 10, and Sunday noon to 9. Visitors describe making poured "liquid art" pieces, tumblers and charcuterie boards with staff guidance, including with children. About 53 minutes from Provo.
Work of HeART, West Jordan. A small craft studio in the garage space of an RV supply business at 2996 Elk Ridge Drive, where reviewers describe teenagers doing resin projects at a birthday party. It does not post regular hours; contact it to book.
Paint pouring nearer home. Inspiration Haven Art Studio, 533 South 1750 West in Springville, runs acrylic paint-pouring sessions, according to reviewers, which give the same poured look without epoxy. It is open Tuesday to Friday noon to 6 p.m. and Saturday to 9.
Supplies for home. Jami Ray Vintage in Lehi (1190 North 500 West) sells Alumilite casting resin, mold putty and resin, and Artist Corner in Orem (380 South Orem Boulevard) stocks resin among its art supplies. Hammer & Stain sells mail-home resin kits online.
Resin at home needs ventilation, nitrile gloves and a level, dust-free surface, and it cures slowly in cold rooms. Read the manufacturer's safety sheet before you start.

If you want to sell what you make
Candles, soap and resin pieces all sell at the valley's boutiques, and all come with rules. Boutiques jury for quality and originality, and Utah requires a temporary sales tax license for special-event vendors. Our guide to selling handmade in Utah Valley covers the paperwork, and local makers in Utah Valley covers how buyers judge handmade goods.
