June Family Home Evening Ideas in Utah Valley (2027): Fishing Ponds, Splash Pads and the Longest Monday

June 2027 FHE ideas for Utah Valley: the DWR's community fishing ponds (kids under 12 fish free), splash pads, and a Monday solstice the day after Father's Day.

June is the month Utah Valley's evenings run past nine o'clock. The four Mondays of June 2027 are June 7, 14, 21 and 28, and every one of them has daylight until about 9:30. That changes what home evening can be: dinner, an hour outside, the lesson at dusk. This guide leans on two cheap June standbys, the state's community fishing ponds and the city splash pads, plus the one Monday that's also the longest day of the year. Checked October 20, 2026.

Monday Sunset Dark A good fit
June 7 8:56 p.m. 9:27 p.m. Splash pad, then dinner in the park
June 14 8:59 p.m. 9:30 p.m. A community fishing pond
June 21 9:01 p.m. 9:33 p.m. Solstice night, the day after Father's Day
June 28 9:02 p.m. 9:33 p.m. The latest sunset of the four

The fishing pond night

The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources stocks a network of community fishing ponds with trout and catfish each year, according to its Memorial Day and Free Fishing Day roundup. The same article says anyone 12 or older needs a fishing license, which means children under 12 fish free every day. A parent who wants to fish alongside them needs a license, except on Free Fishing Day, which in 2026 was Saturday, June 6.

The DWR's community ponds list names eleven in Utah County, spread from Willow Creek Pond in Lehi and Highland Glen Park in Highland to Vivian Park in Provo Canyon, Bartholomew Family Park in Springville, Canyon View Park in Spanish Fork and Spring Lake in Payson. The list doesn't give daily limits; the DWR points anglers to the current Utah Fishing Guidebook for each water's rules. Our kid-friendly fishing ponds guide goes pond by pond, with stocking, gear and how to run a first trip, so this page won't repeat it.

The lesson writes itself: Matthew 4:19, "Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men," and the miraculous catch in John 21. Read it on the bank while the line is in the water.

The splash pad night

Splash pads cost nothing and wear out small children before bed.

With sunset after 8:55 all month, a 6:30 arrival gives children 90 minutes in the water before an 8 p.m. close, and leaves the lesson for a picnic blanket afterward.

June 21: the longest day, the day after Father's Day

The June solstice is at 7:11 a.m. Mountain Standard Time (8:11 a.m. daylight time) on Monday, June 21, 2027, according to the U.S. Naval Observatory. Provo gets 15 hours and 5 minutes of daylight: sunrise at 5:56 a.m., sunset at 9:01 p.m. Father's Day is the day before, Sunday, June 20.

Two ways to use it:

The latest sunset among June's Mondays is a week later, on June 28, at 9:02 p.m.

June 18: the holiday that moved to Friday

Starting January 1, 2027, Utah Code 63G-1-301 lists June 19, Juneteenth National Freedom Day, among the legal holidays that move to the Friday before when they fall on a Saturday. June 19, 2027 is a Saturday, so the state holiday is Friday, June 18. If your household has the day off, the long weekend begins Friday and ends with the solstice Monday.

The rest of June's Mondays

June is town-celebration month in Utah Valley, and each one runs on its own schedule. Our guides to Strawberry Days in Pleasant Grove, Lehi Round-Up and Art City Days in Springville list each year's events as they're announced. Two Monday-only summer standbys, Springville's Monday farmers market and American Fork's Monday concerts in the park, are covered in our 52 ideas guide and our free summer concerts guide.

Heat, and the driest weeks

NOAA's 1991 to 2020 normals for the Provo BYU station give June an average high of 87.2 degrees, an average low of 55.0, and 0.93 inches of precipitation, less than half of May's. Plan the outdoor part for after 7 p.m., when the shade is long.
