The first Monday of April 2027 stacks three things onto one evening in Utah Valley. It's the day after general conference, it's the first day of Provo's spring break, and it's the first day of tours inside the renovated Salt Lake Temple. The Mondays are April 5, 12, 19 and 26. Here's how to use each.
April 5: three things on one Monday
1. The conference Monday. General conference is April 3 and 4, per the Church News 2027 calendar. The day after is the best night of the year to ask everyone what they remember, before it fades. One format that works with children of different ages: each person names one speaker, one sentence they remember, and one thing they'll do. Write the "one thing" list down and read it again on April 26.
2. The Salt Lake Temple's first day. Temple Square's ticketing page says tours "are available daily, April 5 to October 1, 2027," with tours scheduled from 8:40 a.m. to 8 p.m. The Church's Salt Lake Temple Celebration page calls it "a once-in-a-generation opportunity," and the Church News lists the opening event on Saturday, April 10. Temple Square is in downtown Salt Lake City, so from Utah Valley a Monday tour is a whole evening, not a stop.
3. The first day of spring break. Provo City School District's 2026-27 calendar has no school April 5 to 9. Our Easter and spring break week guide covers the rest of the week, including which other districts share it.
Also listed that night: BYU's calendar has the Bean Life Science Museum's "annual Easter Family Night" on Monday, April 5, 2027 at 6 p.m., with crafts, special programs and an egg scavenger hunt, and a note that "there will be no candy or treats at this event." Easter is March 28 in 2027, eight days earlier, so the date may have been carried over from 2026 (when Easter fell on April 5). Check with the museum before you plan on it. Our Bean Museum guide has its hours and parking.
You can't do all three. A sensible split: conference talk at dinner, temple tour on a later Monday, and the museum night only if the museum confirms it.
Salt Lake Temple tickets, in short
Plan this in January, not April. Temple Square's ticketing page says reservations opened September 1, 2026 at TempleSquare.org and in the Temple Square app, released in batches through the registration window, with one reservation of up to six tickets per guest (larger groups use a request form). The Church News reported the first batch was nearly gone in under an hour, and said exhibits on Temple Square that don't need a ticket are free. Our Salt Lake Temple open house guide covers the tour hours, Sunday times and the drive from Provo, so this page won't repeat it. One home evening detail to know: a family of seven doesn't fit in one reservation.
April 12 and 19: the evenings open up
Sunset in Provo moves from 7:56 p.m. on April 5 to 8:17 p.m. on April 26, according to Sunrise-Sunset.org. For the first time since September there's real daylight after dinner.
Tulips, if the festival is open. Thanksgiving Point's Tulip Festival page still showed the 2026 run when we checked: April 6 to May 16, Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., closed Sundays, with timed tickets bought online. If 2027 follows that pattern, a Monday evening visit means arriving by 6:30 to have time before the gardens close at 8. Our Tulip Festival guide covers bloom timing and tickets.
A waterfall in snowmelt season. Bridal Veil Falls in Provo Canyon is a state monument managed day to day by Utah County; Utah State Parks lists it as open year-round, with winter access limited by snow. Spring is snowmelt season in the canyons. Our waterfalls guide compares it with the others in the valley, and our spring in Provo guide explains the runoff season.
One conference talk a week. Instead of covering all of conference in one night, take one talk per Monday through April. The youngest child picks which one from a list of titles.
April 26: the first after-dinner hike
By April 26 the sun sets at 8:17 p.m. and it's light until 8:45. That's enough for one of the short, low trails in our FHE hikes guide. Pick the lowest one near you; higher trails may still hold snow. Then pull out the list you wrote on April 5 and ask who did their "one thing."
If you're going to Utah Lake State Park instead, note that the day-use fee goes up to $20 per vehicle from April through October.
Rain plans for a wet month
NOAA's 1991 to 2020 normals for the Provo BYU station give April an average high of 65.6 degrees and an average low of 39.7. It still averages 3.1 inches of snow, and its 1.92 inches of precipitation make it one of the wettest months on that station's record. Keep a rain plan: the Monday museums are in our library and free museum guide.
