FrontRunner has 16 stops between Provo and Ogden, and they are not equal. Four of them put you within a short walk of something people travel for: UVU at Orem Central, Thanksgiving Point at Lehi, downtown Salt Lake at Salt Lake Central and Ogden's 25th Street district at Ogden. Three connect to TRAX. The rest are mostly commuter stops built around parking. Knowing which is which is the difference between a car-free day and an expensive rideshare from a platform in the middle of nowhere.
This guide goes stop by stop, south to north, the way a Utah County rider meets them. For the schedule logic, the Sunday gap and how the train compares with driving, start with our guide to riding FrontRunner from Provo. For the fare system, fare capping and the student passes, see UTA fares and passes for Utah County. This page is about the stations themselves.
How we measured walks: station addresses come from UTA's August 2026 FrontRunner timetable. Walking distances were calculated on OpenStreetMap's public walking router from the station to the named destination's mapped location, so treat them as door-to-door estimates, not to-the-foot measurements.
The line at a glance
The August 2026 timetable runs trains on weekdays and Saturdays, with "No Service Sunday" printed on the schedule. On weekdays, northbound trains leave Provo every 30 minutes from 4:46 to 8:46 a.m., then hourly through 2:46 p.m., then every 30 minutes again from 3:16 p.m. into the evening, before going hourly late at night; the southbound pattern is similar. Some trips are marked "Friday Only," and trips marked H do not run on holidays.
For a sense of distance, the first northbound weekday train in that timetable leaves Provo Central at 4:46 a.m., reaches Salt Lake Central at 5:55 and pulls into Ogden at 6:54. Going the other way, a train that leaves Salt Lake Central at 6:06 a.m. reaches Provo at 7:11, so plan on roughly 65 to 70 minutes between Provo and downtown Salt Lake.
Saturdays are different. The Saturday timetable is hourly, and the first northbound train from Provo leaves at 7:53 a.m. (a few earlier Saturday trips start at Salt Lake Central instead of Provo).

*Fares are our arithmetic from UTA's published rule: $2.50 for the first station, 60 cents for each additional one, and no charge for passing through Vineyard or North Temple. UTA publishes $9.70 as the maximum Provo-to-Ogden fare, which matches. The rule does not spell out what happens when Vineyard or North Temple is your destination rather than a station you pass, so check the ticket machine or the Transit app for those two. Reduced fares are half: $1.25 base and 30 cents per station. FAREPAY card users stop paying for FrontRunner after $10 in a day or $40 in a week.
Utah County
Provo Central
The south end of the line, at 701 South Freedom Boulevard. It is the Utah Valley's main transit hub: UVX buses terminate here, and the airport's own site says UTA Route 833 runs hourly between Provo Airport and the Provo FrontRunner station.
What you can walk to: downtown Provo starts about seven blocks north. On mapped walking routes the station is about 0.7 miles from the Provo City Center Temple at 50 South University Avenue, about 0.74 miles from the Utah Valley Convention Center on Center Street and just under a mile from Pioneer Park. That is a 15- to 20-minute walk to the heart of downtown, or a short UVX ride. Our UVX guide covers the bus half of that trip.
The station area also has BikeLink electronic bike lockers, rented by the hour; UTA lists them at the "Provo Intermodal Center."
Orem Central
At 1350 West 900 South in Orem, on the west side of I-15, which used to be the problem. Since January 2021 it has not been. UDOT, UTA, UVU and Orem built a 1,000-foot, 15-foot-wide pedestrian bridge from the station to UVU's campus, crossing nine sets of railroad tracks, the freeway and a frontage road. It is roofed, lit, watched by cameras and has 15,000 square feet of heated concrete that melts snow. UDOT called it the largest pedestrian bridge in Utah when it opened.
What you can walk to: UVU. The mapped walk from the station to UVU's main campus is about two-thirds of a mile, and to the Fulton Library about 0.7 miles, roughly 15 minutes. For a UVU commuter coming from Salt Lake County, this is the station that makes the train a real alternative to a parking permit; our UVU commuter guide covers parking and the UVX side of the commute.
Vineyard
The newest Utah County stop, on Market Street inside the Utah City development, the planned downtown rising on the old Geneva Steel land. The station sits in the middle of that project rather than at its edge, which is unusual for FrontRunner. What is open around it changes month to month as buildings finish; our Utah City explainer tracks what has been built.
Fare quirk: passing through Vineyard does not add a station to your fare, so a ride from Provo to Lehi costs the same as it did before Vineyard opened.
American Fork
At 782 West 200 South. We could not find a destination worth sending a visitor to within an easy walk on any official source, so treat American Fork as a park-and-ride for north county commuters rather than a place to get off and explore.
Lehi
At 3101 North Ashton Boulevard, on the Silicon Slopes side of the county. This is the stop for Thanksgiving Point: the mapped walk from the station to the Museum of Ancient Life is about 0.65 miles, and to Thanksgiving Point's main campus about 0.7 miles, both around 15 minutes. That puts the dinosaur museum, the gardens and the farm within reach of a family that comes up from Provo on a Saturday morning train. Our Thanksgiving Point guide sorts the venues.
Plan the walk back around a specific departure from the timetable rather than wandering to the platform and hoping.
Salt Lake County
Draper
At 12997 South FrontRunner Boulevard. The name misleads people. Draper's TRAX stop, Draper Town Center, is a different place: about 3.6 miles away on foot by mapped route. There is no light-rail transfer here. If you need TRAX in the south valley, ride on to Murray Central. Draper is another of UTA's BikeLink locker sites.
South Jordan
At 10351 South Jordan Gateway. Another commuter stop. South Jordan's Daybreak neighborhood is not next to it; Daybreak is served by the TRAX Red Line, which you reach at Murray Central.
Murray Central
At 140 West Vine Street, and the most useful transfer station on the southern half of the line. UTA's timetable says the TRAX Red Line runs north from here to the University of Utah and south to Daybreak, and the Blue Line runs south to Draper. (For a Blue Line ride into downtown Salt Lake, UTA tells riders to use Salt Lake Central instead.)
What you can walk to: Intermountain Medical Center, about a quarter mile and six minutes on foot, which makes Murray Central the stop for anyone with appointments at the hospital campus. Murray Central also has BikeLink lockers. Our guide to Murray and Midvale covers the rest of the area.
Salt Lake Central
At 250 South 600 West, on the west edge of downtown. This is the stop most Utah County riders mean when they say "the train to Salt Lake." The TRAX Blue Line starts here, loops through downtown and then heads south to Draper, so a transfer gets you to Temple Square or City Center without walking.
What you can walk to, by mapped route:
- The Gateway and Clark Planetarium: about 0.6 miles, 13 minutes.
- The Delta Center: about 0.8 miles, 17 minutes, which is why game nights work by train. Our Delta Center game night guide handles the timing problem with the last train home.
- The Salt Palace Convention Center: about 1.1 miles, closer to 25 minutes.
For anything farther east, use TRAX. Part of downtown is a Free Fare Zone for TRAX and buses, and our TRAX guide for Utah County riders explains how that zone and the transfers work.
North Temple
At 500 West North Temple, one stop north of Salt Lake Central. This is the airport connection. UTA's own airport page tells riders to transfer between FrontRunner and the TRAX Green Line at North Temple, and the Green Line's April 2026 timetable has it reaching the Airport Station, just outside the terminal, about a quarter hour after leaving the North Temple area. The airport trip end to end is covered in our SLC airport guide.
Like Vineyard, passing through North Temple does not count as an extra station on your fare.
Davis and Weber counties
North of Salt Lake, Utah County riders mostly come for three things: Lagoon, Station Park and Ogden.
Woods Cross
At 750 South 800 West. Woods Cross City Hall is about half a mile away. Most riders here are local commuters.
Farmington
At 450 North 850 West. This was built as a transit-oriented stop: when work began on the Station Park shopping and dining development in 2008, the Deseret News reported it as 62 acres "right next to Farmington's FrontRunner station," with the anchor stores within walking distance of the FrontRunner parking lot.
Lagoon is the other draw. The mapped walk from the station to Lagoon's entrance on Lagoon Drive is about 1.35 miles, roughly half an hour. That is manageable on a cool morning and a long way at 10 p.m. after a day of rides. A free UTA trolley shuttle between Lagoon and Station Park was reported in 2019, but UTA's page for that route now returns an error, so we cannot confirm it still runs. Our Lagoon from Provo guide covers the drive-versus-train decision.
Layton
At 150 South Main Street. Layton City Hall is just under a mile away. One trap: the Davis Conference Center, where many conventions and expos are held, is about 2.5 miles from the station by mapped walking route. That is not a walk in event clothes; plan on a bus or a ride. Our Layton, Kaysville and Farmington guide has the area.
Clearfield and Roy
Clearfield (1250 South State Street) and Roy (4155 South Sandridge Drive) serve commuters from the north end of Davis County and southern Weber County. Neither is a destination stop for a visitor from Utah Valley.
Ogden
At 2350 South Wall Avenue, the north end of the line and the best-located terminal on it. Ogden's Union Station, at 2501 Wall Avenue, is about a four-minute walk, and Peery's Egyptian Theater on Washington Boulevard is a little over half a mile. Historic 25th Street runs between them.
Two free services start here. UTA's fare page lists the Ogden Trolley as always free, and the OGX bus rapid transit line, which runs from Ogden's Union Station area past Weber State University to McKay-Dee Hospital, is zero-fare through UTA's Spring Change Day in 2028, according to UTA as reported by the Standard-Examiner in August 2026. Ogden is also a BikeLink locker site. For a full day there, see our Ogden from Provo guide.
Practical notes for the platform
- Buy before you board. The timetable says tickets must be bought before boarding and that proof of payment is required. If you use a FAREPAY card, tap on and tap off, because the fare depends on where you got off.
- Trains stop for 20 to 30 seconds. UTA's printed tips say so, and they mean it. Be at the door with your bags in hand, and press the door button when it lights green.
- Your ticket covers the next bus or TRAX ride. A one-way FrontRunner ticket from a station machine allows transfers to buses, UVX, TRAX and the S-Line for two hours.
- Check the last train before you leave home, not after dinner. Weekday and Saturday schedules differ, and nothing runs Sunday.
