The short answer is that Provo does three things unusually well for older adults. Its own facilities carry senior pricing. Its senior center sits inside the recreation center rather than in a building of its own. And it has a university next door with free museums, weekly public addresses, a library open to everyone and a week of public classes every August. The senior center is inside the rec center
Provo's senior center is at 320 West 500 North, inside the Provo Recreation Center, which is why a search for it can land on the rec center instead. Senior programming across Utah County runs through Mountainland Association of Governments, the regional Area Agency on Aging, and our senior centers guide explains what a center actually does beyond lunch, from Medicare counseling to caregiver support, and what a first visit is like. The rec center's senior community counter is 801-852-6620.
The practical upside of the arrangement is that one trip covers both: the center's programs and the building's pools, courts and fitness classes.
The university next door
The Tuesday devotional. Every Tuesday at 11:05 a.m., usually in the Marriott Center, BYU holds a devotional or forum address that it describes as attended by students, faculty, staff and the greater BYU community. The fall 2026 schedule includes senior Church leaders, and most addresses are broadcast live on BYUtv for anyone who would rather watch at home.
Education Week. BYU Education Week 2027 runs Monday, August 16 through Friday, August 20, a week of classes on campus open to the public. Our Education Week guide covers the dates, tuition, registration and accessibility.
The free museums. The Bean Life Science Museum is open 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday. The Museum of Art is free and closed Sunday. The Museum of Paleontology is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays. All three have free admission.
Family history. The BYU Family History Library is inside the Harold B. Lee Library, and the building's Sunday hours, 4 to 8 p.m., are for family history only.
