Most Utah County honeymoons start at Salt Lake City International, and a good number of the places couples want to go are a single flight away. The hard part is the budget: honeymoon price lists online are mostly sales pitches, and resort rates change by the day.
So this page uses benchmarks you can check: the federal government's per diem rates for lodging and meals, which the State Department and the General Services Administration publish for every destination they cover, and Hawaii's own monthly hotel-rate report. They aren't quotes. They're a sober yardstick for what a night and a day of meals cost in each place, so you can plan 3-, 5- and 7-night trips before you start shopping fares.

How to read the numbers on this page
- Per diem lodging is the most a federal traveler can be reimbursed for one hotel room for one night. It's a ceiling meant for ordinary business hotels, not a resort rate. Many honeymoon resorts charge more; many good hotels charge less.
- Meals and incidentals (M&IE) is a per-person daily allowance for food and tips. A couple doubles it.
- Hawaii's average daily rate (ADR) is the average price paid for a hotel room in a month, from the state's survey of 165 hotels. It doesn't include vacation rentals or timeshares.
- Airfare isn't included in the per diem math. Where we cite a monthly airfare figure, it's FlightsFrom's estimate from user searches, not a fare you can book.
- Taxes, resort fees, activities and transportation from the airport are extra everywhere.

3 nights: stay close
Three nights rarely justifies a long flight. The best short honeymoons from Utah County are a drive or a short hop.

5 nights: Mexico
Mexico is the classic Utah honeymoon for a reason: three to five hours nonstop from SLC, warm in winter, and a wide range of prices.

What it doesn't cover: many couples book all-inclusive resorts, which roll lodging, food and drinks into one nightly price. Compare an all-inclusive quote with the lodging-plus-meals line above, not with the lodging line alone.
Passport: you need a passport book to fly to Mexico. The State Department says the passport card can't be used to fly to or from a foreign country.
7 nights: Hawaii
Hawaii is a domestic trip with no passport needed, about six and a half to seven hours nonstop from SLC. Hotel prices vary enormously by island and resort area. Hawaii's Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism reports the average rate paid each month:

From the State of Hawaii's September 2026 Hotel Performance Report, based on STR survey data. Lodging only, before taxes and fees. The report notes that Hurricane Lowell hit Kauai on Sept. 7, 2026, which lowered occupancy there that month.
September is a quieter month. For the first nine months of 2026, the state reported an average of $371 statewide and $538 in Maui County, so plan for more in peak season.
Airfare example: FlightsFrom's estimates for a round trip from SLC to Kahului, Maui, checked November 1, 2026, listed November as the cheapest month (about $408 per adult), September about $468, June about $538, and December the most expensive (about $1,659). It describes these as averages of the cheapest prices users found each month.
Putting it together: seven nights in Lahaina, Kaanapali or Kapalua at September's average ($2,632) plus two November round trips to Maui at FlightsFrom's estimate (about $816) is about $3,448 before meals, taxes, a car and activities. Seven nights in Wailea with December flights would be roughly $4,347 in lodging and about $3,318 in airfare by those figures.
7 nights: Europe
Paris, Amsterdam and London are nonstop from SLC, about nine and a half to ten hours. Europe is the most expensive honeymoon on this page, and the flight eats a day each way.

Entry: the United Kingdom now usually requires U.S. visitors to get an Electronic Travel Authorisation before traveling. The U.K. government says it costs £20 and allows visits of up to six months. Check the rules for any other country on your route before you book.

Passports and names
- Allow time. Check the State Department's current processing times before you book; mailing can add up to two weeks to get the application there and two more to get the passport back.
- The Utah County Clerk's office in Provo is a passport acceptance facility; our passport guide lists the others.
- Don't rush a name change. The county clerk's name-change page says you can keep using a valid passport in your pre-marriage name as long as your tickets and travel documents match the name on the passport.
Getting to SLC
