The Provo Library Ballroom for a Wedding Reception: Published Rates From $840, Room for 320 at Dinner, and the No-Cooking Rule

The Provo City Library ballroom at Academy Square publishes its rates: $1,350 to $2,300 for an evening, 320 at banquet tables, tables, chairs, AV and a warming kitchen included.

The ballroom at the Provo City Library is a city-run reception space that publishes every rate. It sits inside Academy Square on University Avenue, about two minutes by car from the Provo City Center Temple. For a couple who want a large room downtown and plan to bring their own caterer and decorations, it is one of the simplest venues in the valley to price.

All details below are from the library's ballroom page, checked November 1, 2026.

Published rates

Block Days and hours Rental Deposit
9 hours Monday to Thursday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. $840 $200
14 hours Monday to Thursday, 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. $1,350 $300
14 hours Friday and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. $2,000 $300
15 hours Monday to Saturday, 9 a.m. to midnight $2,300 $500

The library says there are no shorter blocks, with no exceptions. A Saturday evening reception therefore means the $2,000 14-hour block, which runs from 9 a.m., so setup, a morning sealing, photos and the reception can all fall inside one rental.

Two details differ between the English and Spanish versions of the page: the English page lists the deposit separately and offers the 15-hour block Monday to Saturday, while the Spanish page describes the deposit as included in the price and the 15-hour block as Friday and Saturday. Ask the scheduling office which applies before you sign.

What the rental includes

The rules that shape the day

Bring your own everything else. Decorations, linens and food come from outside companies, and the library charges no added fees and sets no vendor restrictions.

No cooking. The kitchen is for warming and storage only. Your caterer must arrive with food ready to serve and bring specialized heating equipment if it needs to stay hot. That rules out a caterer who planned to cook on site, so confirm how yours delivers.

One setup. The library does not allow a midday switch of the furniture, for example from theater rows for a ring ceremony to dinner tables for the reception. If you want both, plan one layout that works for both.

Capacity depends on the floor plan. The 320 figure is for banquet tables. A dance floor, a long buffet or a stage for a band all take room from it.

Who it suits

The ballroom suits a downtown Provo couple with a large guest list, a temple sealing at the Provo City Center Temple and a caterer already chosen. It suits a weekday or a Friday better than a Saturday in peak season, when weekend blocks go first. It is not a full-service venue: there is no planner, no in-house decor and no catering, so the couple or a coordinator handles all of that.

Touring and booking

Call or email the scheduling office to see the room and ask about dates. Questions worth asking: which deposit and 15-hour terms apply, how early your caterer can load in, what time the last guests must be out of the building, and whether the library's own events affect parking that day.

Our reception venue prices guide puts the library's rates beside other venues that publish theirs, and reception centers city by city lists the rest of Provo. For the temple side of the day, see sealings at the Provo City Center Temple. Sign every term in writing; our vendor contracts guide explains what to check, and our guide to choosing a wedding caterer covers delivered-ready food.

How many guests fit in the Provo Library ballroom?
The library lists up to 320 at banquet or dinner tables, up to 500 in theater-style rows of chairs and up to 150 classroom style. It says the real number depends on the staging, serving area and dance floor you set up.
Can you rent the Provo Library ballroom on a Sunday?
No Sunday block is listed, and the library itself is closed on Sundays.
Can we bring our own caterer?
Yes. The library says decorations, linens and catering come from outside companies with no added fees or restrictions. The kitchen has a large warming oven, two large refrigerators, a freezer, an ice machine and sinks, but the library allows no cooking on site, so food must arrive ready to serve or be kept hot with your caterer's own equipment.
What is included in the rental?
Tables and chairs, setup and takedown of the library's furniture and stage, the kitchen, the available audiovisual equipment (speakers, microphones, a projector and a screen) and use of the Brimhall Room, a large meeting room.
Can we rent the ballroom for just a few hours?
No. The library says there are no shorter or alternative time blocks, with no exceptions. The shortest is the 9-hour weekday daytime block.
How far is the Provo Library from the Provo City Center Temple?
About 0.7 miles, roughly 2 minutes by car, by OpenStreetMap routing. The library is at 550 N. University Ave., and the temple at 50 S. University Ave.
How do we book the ballroom?
Through the library's Events and Scheduling office, at 801-852-7691 or roomscheduling@provolibrary.gov.
