August in Utah Valley
The turn — summer at full strength, and the students coming back.
What August is actually like here
August runs in two halves. The first is high summer: canyons busy, reservoirs warm, city celebrations still going, and the last of the outdoor concert and market season. The second is the return — UVU starts before BYU, so the valley refills in two waves roughly a two weeks apart, and anyone who has lived here knows that traffic, rents, grocery stores and restaurant waits all change in that window. Education Week at BYU brings many thousands of visitors to campus in the middle of the month, which is the single biggest lodging squeeze of the late summer. By the end of August both campuses are full, football season is imminent, and the valley has switched from its summer rhythm to its academic one.
Weather, roughly. Still hot but easing, with the monsoon pattern at its most active. Evenings begin to cool noticeably toward the end of the month. Our Provo weather guide has the detail, including why the elevation makes this valley behave differently from what the forecast number suggests.

Planning further out
This page is evergreen: it shows whatever is next in August, whichever year that turns out to be. The farthest-future date on the Provo.com calendar right now is December 8, 2028. Most Utah Valley calendars stop caring past thirty days, which is precisely why planning a trip or a weekend around one of them does not work.
