What April is actually like here

April is when Utah Valley visibly turns. The orchards and the older residential streets blossom, the Wasatch keeps its snow as a backdrop long after the valley floor has gone green, and the combination is the single most photographed thing about this place that is not a canyon. It is also the busiest academic two weeks of the year: both universities run finals and then commencement, which means the town is at maximum density and then, within about a week, at minimum. Anyone booking a hotel in April should know which week they are in — graduation weekends fill lodging across the valley. The gardens and the outdoor attractions at the north end of the valley open their spring programming, and the lower trails become genuinely walkable while the high ones remain closed.

Weather, roughly. Mild and improving, with real rain and the occasional late snow. The valley can be twenty degrees warmer than the canyons above it. Our Provo weather guide has the detail, including why the elevation makes this valley behave differently from what the forecast number suggests.

Planning further out

This page is evergreen: it shows whatever is next in April, whichever year that turns out to be. The farthest-future date on the Provo.com calendar right now is December 8, 2028. Most Utah Valley calendars stop caring past thirty days, which is precisely why planning a trip or a weekend around one of them does not work.
