Outdoor and Garden Wedding Venues in Utah County: The Season, the Rain Plan, and the Permit Rules for City and County Parks

Outdoor weddings in Utah County: garden venues and their indoor backups, park pavilion seasons and prices, and when Provo, Springville and Utah County require a permit.

An outdoor wedding in Utah County means planning around two things: a short warm season and a backup for a sudden storm. This page covers the private garden venues and what each does when it rains, then the public parks, with their seasons, prices and the permit rules that catch couples out. We read the venues' own pages and the Provo, Springville and Utah County parks pages on October 20, 2026.

The season

Public pavilions follow the warm months, and the windows are narrower than people expect:

Operator Pavilion season
Provo City April 15 to October 15
Springville canyon parks May 1 to September 30 (policy page also says April through September, weather permitting)
Utah County parks No season stated on its parks page; check when booking

For a summer date, read our summer weddings and heat guide. For a winter wedding that still feels like a garden, look at the greenhouse venues below.

Private garden and outdoor venues, and their rain plans

Venue Outdoor space Indoor backup
Thanksgiving Point, Lehi Loggia, Hidden Falls, Rose Arbor Velvet Room, Garden Room and other halls
Shade Weddings and Events, Orem Vineyard Glasshouse in every booking; the Greenhouse is the second space November to May
Sun River Gardens, Orem Patios in warm months Climate-controlled greenhouse; no events in May
The Wild Oak, Lindon Pergola patio, marriage grove, fire pit The plaster-walled hall

Ask every venue three questions: when the call to move indoors is made, who moves the chairs, and whether the indoor room is already booked for your reception.

Event permit: required for an event in a county park with more than 50 people, amplified sound, food vendors, temporary structures or anything affecting public access. Apply at least 30 days before. Small private gatherings under 50 that stay in a reserved area don't need one. Fees are on the county's Public Works fee schedule. Reservations are through the county's online system or 801-851-8640.

Springville's canyon parks

Springville runs more than 400 acres of parks in Hobble Creek Canyon, Jolley's Ranch, Kelly's Grove and Rotary Park, with 10 pavilions it rents for "weddings, and other events." The rules:

The backup plan, in writing

  1. Pick the call time. Decide the hour you will commit to indoors or out, usually the morning of.
  2. Rent the tent early if your venue has no indoor room; park permits may count a tent as a temporary structure.
  3. Know who moves things. Venues differ on whether staff flip the ceremony chairs.
  4. Price the risk. Springville's canyon parks give no weather refunds; private venues such as The Ranches and Sleepy Ridge state that their deposits are nonrefundable. See wedding insurance in Utah.
  5. Plan the light. Evening ceremonies after the heat break also land in golden hour for photos.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you get married in a Provo city park?
Yes, with the right paperwork. Provo says weddings and receptions need a Special Parks & Trails Use Application, not just a pavilion reservation. Events of 500 or more, or ones needing city services such as road closures, need a Community Special Events application.
When are Provo park pavilions available?
Provo's pavilion season is April 15 to October 15, with reservations opening January 1 for the year. Reservations are paid in full when booked; changes cost $10, and there are no refunds within 7 days.
How much does a Utah County park pavilion cost?
Utah County's parks page lists pavilions from $30 for four hours (Benjamin Park, Lincoln Beach) to $65 for four hours or $100 all day at the larger pavilions, including Vivian Park and Nunn's Park in Provo Canyon, which hold up to 100.
Do I need a permit for a wedding in a Utah County park?
If it has more than 50 people, amplified sound, food vendors or temporary structures, Utah County says yes. Apply at least 30 days ahead.
Can we hold a wedding at Springville's canyon parks?
Yes. Springville lists weddings among the uses for its 10 Hobble Creek Canyon pavilions at Jolley's Ranch, Kelly's Grove and Rotary Park. Pavilions run May 1 to September 30, can be booked up to a year ahead, and must be reserved at least seven days in advance.
What is Springville's canyon pavilion refund policy?
90% back if you cancel at least three months out, 50% from three weeks to three months, and nothing within three weeks. Springville gives no refund for bad weather.
Which garden venues have an indoor backup?
Among the venues we profile, The Chillon advertises an indoor rain plan for its outdoor ceremony, Sun River Gardens holds receptions in a climate-controlled greenhouse, and Thanksgiving Point, Walker Farms, The Wild Oak and Barbwire & Lace pair outdoor spaces with indoor halls or barns.
Are bounce houses allowed at park receptions?
Not in Springville's parks, which ban inflatables, water slides and dunk tanks. Provo puts inflatables under its special-use application.
