The Orem Utah Temple is the valley's newer west-side temple, a few minutes from Utah Valley University and about 11 minutes from downtown Provo without traffic. For a sealing, it has two practical strengths: an almost clear calendar for the rest of 2026, and room around it for the wedding party to move. Its one quirk is the address, which is written two ways.
If you have not yet picked a temple, start with Just Engaged in Utah Valley: The First 30 Days. If you are comparing it with downtown, read the Provo City Center Temple page next.
Finding it: one temple, two addresses
The Church's temple page gives 1451 South 1100 West, Orem, UT 84058. Google Maps lists the building at 1471 South Geneva Road. Geneva Road is the main north-south road on that side of Orem, and both addresses lead to the same grounds. Put the Church's address on your invitation, then drop the pin yourself before you share it. Older relatives who type "Orem temple" into a phone will usually land correctly; the risk is someone navigating to a street number that does not match the sign.
From the campuses, uncongested OpenStreetMap routing gives:
| From | Distance | Time |
|---|---|---|
| UVU campus | about 2.3 mi | about 7 min |
| BYU campus | about 5.7 mi | about 12 min |
| Provo City Center Temple | about 6.3 mi | about 11 min |
The calendar is the selling point
From the Church's temple page, as listed on October 19, 2026:
- Rest of 2026: closed only November 25 to 26 (Thanksgiving), December 24 to 25 and December 31. No maintenance closure is listed for the rest of the year.
- 2027: January 1; February 22 to March 8; April 3 (general conference); July 3; July 24; August 23 to September 6; October 2; November 24 to 25; December 24 to 25; December 31.
Two things follow:
- December 2026. Provo City Center and Saratoga Springs are both closed November 30 to December 14. Orem is open those weeks, which means more couples will be asking for it. If you want an early-December sealing, call now.
- June 2027. Provo City Center is closed May 31 to July 5, 2027. Orem is open the whole month, and downtown couples will look here first.
The flip side: if your heart is set on a late-August 2027 date, Orem is out from August 23 to September 6.
Scheduling a sealing here
The Church sets the order:
- Bishop first. The General Handbook says members planning to be sealed may contact the temple "after they have met with their bishop." A first sealing requires a recommend for living ordinances.
- Then call 801-762-6720. The Church's scheduling help says members receiving their own ordinances "should make an appointment directly with the temple," well in advance. The online system handles proxy ordinances.
- Ask what is not published. The Church does not list sealing-room capacity on its temple pages. Ask how many guests the offered room holds, when to arrive and how guests check in.
The temple rents temple clothing, per its Church page, though the Church encourages members to bring their own.
The guests outside
Everyone who is not attending the sealing waits on the grounds. The handbook asks couples to invite "only close family members and friends" inside, and every accountable guest must be endowed and hold a current recommend. The Church page lists no visitors' center here.
The grounds are open to the public, and the Church's FAQ says they stay that way after dedication. Practical notes for the people outside:
- Weather. With no visitors' center listed, the wait is outdoors. Send guests a forecast reminder the night before: sun and water in summer, coats in winter.
- Kids. The handbook says children on temple grounds need adult supervision. Name the adult.
- The exit. Agree in advance which doors the couple will come out of, and tell the people outside.
For non-member relatives, our guide for out-of-town guests explains the day without assuming anything.
Photos
The grounds are a common place for post-sealing photos. Keep the ring exchange inside: the handbook says couples may exchange rings in the sealing room after the ceremony but "should not exchange rings at any other time or place in a temple or on temple grounds." If the family wants to see rings exchanged, plan a ring ceremony at the reception.
Lunch after: short drives in every direction
The Orem temple is not walkable to restaurants the way downtown Provo is, but it is close to several options by car.
- Sleepy Ridge, 730 South Sleepy Ridge Drive: about 1.9 miles and 5 minutes by uncongested OpenStreetMap routing. Its pricing page lists "luncheons" among the events it books, priced on inquiry. Our Sleepy Ridge profile covers its rooms and what is included.
- University Parkway and State Street: the restaurants around University Place and the Orem stretch of State Street are about 10 minutes away. Our best restaurants in Orem list is a starting point; call about group seating before you promise it.
- Downtown Provo: about 10 minutes to The Ivory Hall by car, if you want the luncheon and reception in one downtown room.
Our wedding luncheon venues guide covers who is usually invited and how long the meal should run.
Pairing it with a reception
Because Orem sits mid-valley, it pairs with reception venues north or south. Rough drives from the temple by uncongested OpenStreetMap routing:
On State Street, Sun River Gardens hosts receptions year-round in its greenhouse.
About 3 minutes away on Geneva Road, Shade Weddings and Events rents garden spaces from noon to 10 p.m.
- Sleepy Ridge (Orem): about 5 minutes.
- The Ivory Hall (downtown Provo): about 10 minutes.
- Wadley Farms (Lindon): about 13 minutes.

For UVU students
If you are getting married mid-semester, the Orem temple is the shortest hop from campus. Two things to sort out early:
- Your bishop. If you are in a student ward, your bishop there issues the recommend interview, so start before the semester gets busy. Our finding your ward guide explains how records move.
- Finals weeks. Families flying in for a December or April wedding compete with graduation and move-out for hotel rooms; see our where to stay in Provo guide.
