Getting Sealed at the Saratoga Springs Utah Temple: The Lake-Side Temple, Its December Closure and Planning a West-Side Wedding Day

Planning a sealing at the Saratoga Springs Utah Temple: scheduling, closure weeks in 2026 and 2027, drive times from Provo, the wait outside and lunch nearby.

The Saratoga Springs Utah Temple serves the fastest-growing corner of the valley: Saratoga Springs, Eagle Mountain, the west side of Lehi. For a couple whose families live out there, it is the natural choice. For a couple with campus friends in Provo, it is the farthest of Utah County's operating temples from BYU. And it shares a December closure with Provo City Center, which matters if you were hoping for an early-December wedding.

Quick reference

Where it sits on the map

This temple is closer to Salt Lake County than to Provo. Uncongested OpenStreetMap routing:

West-side receptions we profile: The Venue at The Ranches in Eagle Mountain, which rents spaces from $700, and The Oz and The Rooftop in Lehi.

From the Saratoga Springs temple to Distance Time
UVU campus about 18 mi about 30 min
Provo City Center Temple about 23 mi about 34 min
BYU campus about 22.5 mi about 35 min
Oquirrh Mountain temple (South Jordan) about 18 mi about 28 min
Draper temple about 17 mi about 30 min

For a family split between Utah County and the south Salt Lake Valley, that middle position is a real advantage: neither side drives an hour. Our page on the Salt Lake County temples for Utah Valley couples compares the other side of the line.

The calendar, and the December overlap

From the Church's page, as listed on October 19, 2026:

2026

2027

Unlike most Utah County temples, Saratoga Springs' 2027 list does not show April 3 (the spring general conference Saturday) as a closure, as of October 19, 2026. Lists change; confirm before you book that day.

The overlap to know about: both of its maintenance windows line up exactly with Provo City Center's (November 30 to December 14, 2026, and November 29 to December 13, 2027). In those weeks, both the downtown temple and the west-side one are out, so Lindon, Orem, Mount Timpanogos and Payson carry the valley. In June 2027, when Provo City Center is closed for five weeks, Saratoga Springs is open except June 7 to 21.

Scheduling a sealing

  1. See your bishop. The General Handbook says members may contact the temple "after they have met with their bishop." A first sealing requires a recommend for living ordinances.
  2. Call the temple directly. The Church's scheduling help says members receiving their own ordinances "should make an appointment directly with the temple," well in advance.
  3. Ask about guests. The Church does not publish sealing-room capacity. Ask how many the room holds and how guests check in.

The people waiting outside

The handbook asks couples to invite "only close family members and friends" inside, and every accountable guest must be endowed with a current recommend. The rest of the guests, including children (who must have adult supervision on the grounds), wait outside.

There is no visitors' center listed here, so:

Photos and rings

Photos on the grounds after a sealing are routine. The one rule couples trip on: the handbook says rings may be exchanged in the sealing room after the ceremony, but not "at any other time or place in a temple or on temple grounds." A ring moment for the whole family belongs at the reception; see our ring ceremony explainer.

Lunch and the reception

Saratoga Springs' restaurant and venue supply has grown with the city, but it is still thinner than Orem's or downtown Provo's. Options by direction:

For receptions out here, our reception centers by city list covers Saratoga Springs, Eagle Mountain and Lehi. Our wedding luncheon guide covers the meal itself.

If your guests are flying in

Salt Lake City International Airport is north of here, so a west-side sealing can shorten the drive for travelers compared with Payson or downtown Provo. Hotels are sparser in Saratoga Springs itself; many families stay in Lehi or along the I-15 corridor. Our things to do in Saratoga Springs guide covers the area for the afternoon gap.
