Provo is easier than you might expect for a day without a car, and the reason is one bus line. The UVX, UTA's Utah Valley Express, runs the length of the Provo-Orem corridor in its own lanes, with pickups every 6 to 10 minutes according to Provo City, and it connects both of the valley's FrontRunner stations. Downtown Provo, BYU, University Place and UVU are all on it.
This list has one rule: every entry is reachable on the UVX or FrontRunner plus a short walk. The walking times come from each place's OpenStreetMap coordinates and the UVX stop nearest to it, using the same method as the rest of our site: straight-line distance times 1.3, at 3 miles an hour, rounded to the nearest five minutes. The two catches, first
Sunday. The UVX does not run on Sunday, and neither does FrontRunner. It is no service at all, not a reduced schedule, and our UVX guide calls it the single most common way visitors and new residents get stranded. Every plan on this page is a Monday-through-Saturday plan.
The fare. The UVX is free with a current BYU or UVU student ID and charges a regular UTA fare to everyone else; the free-for-everyone promotion ended on August 18, 2024. Our UTA fares guide puts the base fare at $2.50, with a flat $1 for riders in the reduced-fare program.
The line, north to south
The UVX's stops, as they appear in UTA's route data, run from Orem Central Station through UVU, Lakeview, Main Street, University Place, 2230 North, BYU Stadium, BYU North Campus, BYU Central Campus (southbound only), BYU South Campus, Joaquin, Academy Square, 300 North and Center Street to Provo Central Station, with a loop south to Towne Centre Boulevard and East Bay. Orem Central and Provo Central are the FrontRunner stations.
