Sealings at the Lindon Utah Temple, and Why the Provo Rock Canyon Temple Is Not an Option Yet

The Lindon Utah Temple opened for sealings in May 2026; the Provo Rock Canyon Temple is still being rebuilt. Scheduling, closures and what to expect at each.

Two temples in this valley get asked about together because each is half of a change. The Lindon Utah Temple is the newest place in Utah County to be sealed, dedicated in May 2026. The Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple is the old Provo temple, closed since early 2024 and being rebuilt, and it is not taking sealings. If someone in the family says "let's do it at the Provo temple," this page is the one to send them.

For the decisions that come before any temple choice, see Just Engaged in Utah Valley: The First 30 Days.

Its calendar

From the Church's temple page, as listed on October 19, 2026:

2026

2027

Where Lindon helps: it is open during Mount Timpanogos' November 2026 closure (November 9 to 26) and during the November 30 to December 14 closure shared by Provo City Center and Saratoga Springs. It is also open through June 2027, when Provo City Center is closed for five weeks. Expect demand in all three windows.

Scheduling

  1. Bishop interview. The General Handbook says members may contact the temple to schedule a sealing "after they have met with their bishop." A first sealing requires a recommend for living ordinances.
  2. Call the temple. The Church's scheduling help says members receiving their own ordinances "should make an appointment directly with the temple," well in advance.
  3. Ask about the room and guests. The Church does not publish sealing-room capacities.

Getting there

Uncongested OpenStreetMap routing from the temple:

To Distance Time
Wadley Farms (Lindon) about 1.6 mi about 5 min
Mount Timpanogos temple about 5.3 mi about 11 min
UVU campus about 6 mi about 16 min
BYU campus about 8.2 mi about 19 min
Provo City Center Temple about 11.5 mi about 20 min

Guests, photos and the rings

As at every temple, the handbook asks couples to invite "only close family members and friends," and accountable guests must be endowed and hold a current recommend. Everyone else waits on the grounds, which are open to the public. The Church lists no visitors' center here, so plan for an outdoor wait and name an adult for the children, whom the handbook says must be supervised on temple grounds.

Photos on the grounds are routine. The handbook allows a ring exchange in the sealing room after the ceremony, but not "at any other time or place in a temple or on temple grounds." Our ring ceremony explainer covers what a reception ring ceremony can include.

Lunch

Lindon's luncheon geography is good:

Our wedding luncheon venues guide covers the meal itself. For Lindon as a place, see living in Lindon.

The Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple

What happened

On February 20, 2024, the Church announced that the Provo temple would close on February 24, 2024, for reconstruction and would reopen as the Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple. The announcement said the new building would meet current seismic codes, with "reconfigured rooms" and updated electrical, heating and plumbing systems. Our Rock Canyon rebuild explainer covers the design debate and the construction.

Where it stands for couples

Do not plan a wedding around a guess. If a family member hopes to be sealed in the rebuilt Provo temple, the honest answer today is that nobody outside the Church knows when that will be possible.

What the Church told members of the old district

The 2024 announcement encouraged members to "attend other temples as their circumstances permit" and told members who want to receive their own ordinances to contact a nearby temple to make arrangements. For families on Provo's east bench, the nearest open temples are:

The wrong-turn problem

Map apps and older relatives still say "the Provo temple" for the hillside site. A guest who types that into a phone may end up at a construction fence instead of downtown. On every invitation, write the full temple name and street address. Our visiting Provo's temples guide covers the two Provo sites side by side.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Lindon Utah Temple open for sealings?
Yes. The Church's temple page lists it as operating, dedicated May 3, 2026. It was closed for maintenance from October 19 to November 2, 2026, so check the closure list before you pick a date.
Can we get sealed at the Provo Rock Canyon Temple?
No. The Church closed the original Provo temple on February 24, 2024, renamed it the Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple and is rebuilding it. Its Church page lists its status as renovation, and no reopening, open house or rededication date had been announced as of October 19, 2026.
When is the Lindon temple closed?
As listed on the Church's page on October 19, 2026: October 19 to November 2, November 7 (limited), November 25 (limited), November 26, December 24 to 25 and December 31, 2026 to January 1, 2027. In 2027: February 1 to 15, March 26, April 3, July 3, July 24, August 2 to 16, October 2, November 24 (limited), November 25, December 24 to 25 and December 31 to January 1, 2028.
How do we schedule a sealing at the Lindon temple?
Meet with your bishop, then call the temple at 801-701-3680. The Church's scheduling help says members receiving their own ordinances should book directly with the temple, well in advance, not through the online tool.
Where is the Lindon Utah Temple?
At 850 East Center Street, Lindon, UT 84042, according to the Church's page. By uncongested OpenStreetMap routing it is about 16 minutes from UVU, 19 minutes from BYU and 20 minutes from the Provo City Center Temple.
When will the Provo Rock Canyon Temple reopen?
The Church has not said. Its February 2024 announcement gave no timeline. Construction estimates in news reports are not Church announcements. When the Church sets dates, it will list them on its temple open houses page, and a public open house would normally come before rededication.
Where can we hold a luncheon near the Lindon temple?
Wadley Farms is about 5 minutes away by uncongested OpenStreetMap routing, and its site describes its Barn as suited to luncheons. The restaurants along State Street in Lindon, Orem and Pleasant Grove are also close. Call ahead about group seating.
If our families used the old Provo temple, which temple should we choose now?
The Church's 2024 announcement encouraged members of that temple district to attend other temples as their circumstances permit, and told members seeking their own ordinances to contact a nearby temple. For east Provo families, the Provo City Center Temple is closest, with Orem and Lindon each about 20 minutes away or less.
