The six districts, and what each one is doing

How the split got here, and what is still ahead

• November 2024 Voters in northern Utah County approve splitting Alpine School District at the general election.
• November 2025 Twenty-one board members are elected at the municipal election — seven for each new district, all at once, because there is no existing board to stagger terms against.
• 25 November 2025 All three new boards are sworn in and begin meeting. Aspen Peaks makes its name permanent in late November; Lake Mountain follows in December.
• January 2026 The Timpanogos board votes to adopt its placeholder name permanently, the last of the three to settle its identity.
• June 2026 The three boards ratify a resource-distribution agreement dividing Alpine's assets, liabilities and teacher benefits. Superintendents are now in place at all three districts.
• 30 June 2027 · still ahead The last day Alpine School District exists. The 2026–27 school year runs from start to finish under Alpine.
• 1 July 2027 (a Thursday) · still ahead Aspen Peaks, Lake Mountain and Timpanogos assume all K–12 operations. Alpine School District ceases to exist.

The four things parents keep getting wrong

• The coming school year is not affected. The 2026–27 year runs start to finish under Alpine. The handover is the morning after it ends.
• Changing district is not changing school. Your child's building, teachers and attendance area do not move because the district line moved. What can move them is a boundary study, which each new district runs separately, and which is the process worth watching.
• Provo and Nebo are not in this. Provo City has run its own district for generations and Nebo covers the south county; neither is part of the split, and neither changes on 1 July 2027.
• No tax rate has been set. Three new districts will each set their own, and until a board actually adopts one, any figure you read is a projection.
